June 9, 2010 To Whom It May Concern Parents Victoria wants to extend our support to the current and future families in the Coburg community voicing their aspirations to have a public secondary school in their local area. Our organisation acknowledges the challenges that the State Government faces in funding and sustaining all Victorian schools with the ever changing demographics and expectations of the Victorian community. But we strongly believe and agree that it is a reasonable expectation to have a local public secondary college for the current children and those who will be here in the future, particularly considering the recent baby boom. Both Federal and State Governments make regular claims to the public about improving school provision and building new and regenerating old schools for the future, the Victorian Government's own 2010-2011 State Budget papers being a case in point: “The Brumby Labor Government is standing up for families by investing in our schools in communities across the whole State,” Ms Pike said. “Our Government understands how important access to high quality schools is to Victorian families – and we understand that building new schools is an investment in a stronger community today and greater opportunities into the future.” “Victorian families want the best quality schools close to home, that’s why the Brumby Labor Government is delivering on the final tranche of our $1.9 billion Victorian Schools Plan,” she said.

Victorians, including the Coburg community, are hearing those messages loud and clear; now it’s time for Governments to act on those visions and promises to the community they are elected to represent and serve. Representing families in the public school sector, Parents Victoria asks the Victorian Government to listen and respond to the Coburg community's questions and suggestions. We hope common sense will prevail and the Victorian Government demonstrates its Blueprint for Education commitment to building partnerships with parents and communities across Victoria. Yours sincerely,

Sharron Healy Vice President Parents Victoria Inc
