HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR
Generally we all see heavy rush in hospitals. There are different-different departments which are full of doctors, surgeons, nurses, technicians, pharmacists and patients. For working of these different groups efficiently and as one unit, there is a need of an adhesive force which can hold them all together and that is hospital administration being handled by a team and headed by an administrator. This administrator is commonly designated as Hospital Administrator.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR
A hospital administrator handles and controls all the activities of various departments and associated facilities. He or she commonly works under the guidance of the hospital s governing board of trustees. His/her role is to communicate with the board, medical staff and departments heads on a regular basis. Following are the responsibilities which are handled by a hospital administrator:

1. Business Aspects
Currently hospitals are run like small or medium sized businesses. A hospital administrator has to handle the business side of the hospital to make it run smoothly. The business aspects includes management of personnel, establishing policies and procedures, maintaining of computer systems and databases, allocation of budgets, finance and other organizational systems .

2. Addressing Needs Of The Employees
A hospital administrator has to communicate and co-ordinate with doctors, physicians, nurses and other medical staff members. He/she is appointed to assign the schedules for doctors and other medical staff members. Sometime, he/she has to co-ordinate with external specialists in case of emergencies.

3. Patient s Medical Care And Well-Being
The care and treatment of patients in the hospital is one of the major responsibilities of the hospital administrator. He or she has to keep the morale up of the medical teams and staff members to perform their duties to the best of their abilities to make the patient feel comfortable. Frequent rounds are being taken by him/her to check the smoothness of work done and required actions are taken.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Mostly hospital administrators are required to hold a master's degree like Master of Healthcare Administration or Master of Health Services Administration programs that are enough to prepare graduates for a career in hospital administration. These programs are combined form of business administration and public health training. Health services or healthcare administration programs also require that students complete an extensive internship (Training) at a healthcare centre. Common course topics in a master's degree program in hospital administration include:

Practicing and experienced doctors who has undergone additional business training may also choose the occupation of hospital administration. For others who have enough experience, other master's degree programs that could make the career in hospital administration include business administration, public health and public administration. In an administrator leadership skills, managerial skills and good communication skills are must.

CAREER PATH AND GROWTH IN HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION
Health Services Administrators normally start their career as administrative assistants in large centers or assistant administrators in medium-sized institutions. The promotion process vary from organization to organization. Generally it occurs with the increase of responsibilities and they start growing as associate administrator, administrator, chief-administrator and finally become CEO.

SALARIES, INCENTIVES, BONUS OF HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR
The approx annual salary for health administrator according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) was about $ 96,657.60, as of May 2009. The BLS predicts that employment for hospital administrator will grow by 16% between the years 2009 and 2018, due to an increase in demand for health services in all over the world. If the hospital administrator does their work to their best then they receive an annual bonus. The average yearly bonus is $3,000 for a new administrator.
