PREFACE: "Study? Sooooo boring!" Each one of us has loved to hate studies, and still managed to get through. We have always envied the so called "scholars" of our class, who could score twice the marks with half the study. And who will like something that he is not successful at?

But as is true with every game, there are ar e certain rules to study. Certain methods, ways and techniques to study better. When one plays the game of study with w ith these rules, it becomes beautifully simplified and extremely easy. And that's what this book is all about. Most of us would be using some technique outlined in this book. But, it must be something that we learnt by trial and error, by experience. Super Student is an attempt to compile this trial and error experience archive into a comprehensive book. It's just all about using experiences of others to your benefit. You needn't burn yourself to know fire is hot. What is the source of the book? How are these 65 odd chapters written? You have a right to know, and you must. This book is a compilation from a variety of sources - the main is experience of students. It is one thing that none of us can afford to ignore, as it's the best teacher. Students have realised these insights, some of which are learnings of entire student careers. There is another aspect to this. All the information that is in this book is knowledge too. It has been cross checked and verified by many others, and has worked with most. With some tweaking it will definitely work for you too. Only it needs to be applied in the right context. Another important thing is to have a balance - even the best technique applied extremely will fail miserably, and in balance, even poison is beneficial. Appl Applyy with a lot of caution, without depending solely on any particular technique or method. It is an integrated approach that will give you the best results. This is the beginning of a unique relationship between you and me. We are to share some of the best insights of the art of studying. The role of this book is also reminding you of what you already know. Thus, to start, I'll begin with this prayer. ...May every word in this book find the perfect thought in your mind. -Abhishek Thakore EXCERPTS: Chap. 5. Time Management Imagine you had a bank that credited you with Rs.86, 400 every morning. You would have a freedom to use as much of this money as you like. But there would be just one condition - at the end of the day, whatever balance is left will simply be taken away. What would you do in such a case? Obviously make full use of all the money. Sadly, most of us don't realise that this is what we must do with time. Every day has 86,400 seconds that you can use as you like. An ordinary student tends to waste most of the time he has for unimportant

things. As a Super Student you must learn time management. In o one ne word, time management is prioritizing. All the things that you do in the day can be divided into categories on basis of urgence and importance. The four categories thus derived would be: Urgent and Important : Jobs which are really close to deadlines - like submissions of projects, test preparations - you have no choice but to do these important things. Urgent but not Important : Any task that you HAVE to do, though not important, like answering a door bell. Not Urgent but Important : Tasks that are to be done by some distant deadline, like doing a project by the end of vacations. Neither Urgent nor Important : Watching TV, Computer games, chatting on phone and any other tasks that you tend to do just for time pass. The essence of time management lies in devoting maximum time to the not urgent but important category, of course after urgent and important tasks are handled ! . The Super Student should remember to allocate time last to the Neither Urgent nor Important category. Sounds simple, doesnÂ’t it? So now immediately make a list of all the things that you do in the normal course of the day and classify them in these different categories. Now you know where to give time to! TIP Not urgent but Important tasks are tiny, till they become urgent as well as important. So, kill the monster while it is small.

Chap. 7 Ask Your Pillow to Wake-you-up A wonderful dream gets interrupted by an eerie ring of the alarm - and you wake up, sullen and with a heavy head. Who doesn't have a problem getting up on time? We all do! But there is a wonderful and simple way to get up on time without even using the alarm clock - it is the pillow method. Science today acknowledges the existence of a biological clock in the human body - which is in tune with the world time. So when you can send a message to this biological clock, you will attain mastery over getting up whenever you want. The technique is very simple. Just before you go off to sleep, tell your pillow three times what time would you like to wake w ake up. Silly? No. Effective. Tell your pillow something like "Dear pillow wake w ake me up tomorrow morning at 6 am sharp" three t hree times. Then go to sleep.

This should be the last thing you say before you drift off to sleep. No thoughts between this and you entering the sleepy state will make it successful. You will see that the next day EXACTLY at tthe he time when you told your pillow, you will get up. The Pillow Method might take some time to master, but once you get it right, it will be a wonderful tool for a lifetime. So chat with your pillow - and make it your friend. TIP In the morning your eyes will DEFINITELY open at the time you tell your pillow. But from that moment you have to take control. If you decide to sleep for "just five more minutes", you'll end up getting up a few hours afterwards!
