How to Get Your Personal Info Off Of Online Databases Collected May 14, 2011, Updated May 28, 2011, Updated June 28, 2011, Updated July 13, 2011, Updated May 11, 2013 By Marilyn Heywood Paige Your personal information that is in the public record can only be removed by court order. However, there are plenty of sites who gather that info and give (or sell) it to anyone who asks. You can make it harder for the average Google-searcher to get your personal info by opting out of these “people finder” databases. Below are some of the sites that trade in your personal info (like address, phone numbers, where you work, how much you earn, & who lives with you etc.) You can hire one of these sites like reputation.com to do it for you for a pretty hefty monthly sum, or you can do it yourself. You just have to contact each site individually, but it’s pretty easy to do.

BeenVerified.com How do I remove my data from BeenVerified? Please send an email to [email protected] and supply the following information.     

Your name as shown on our site Your Age Current address (City, State, Zip) Previous addresses Listed Relatives

We send out a monthly update to our data providers.

Intelius.com http://www.intelius.com/privacy.php

This from their site: As a courtesy we allow you to opt out your personal information from our Website. What this means is that your name as it appears in a particular record and the associated identifying information such as your address and phone number will be suppressed if you request this in the manner described below. However, please note that any time your identifying information appears in a public record or in a publicly or commercially available manner, in a way that is different from the particular record you opted out, it will again appear on our Website. For example, if your address or area code changes, your new information -- including other associated identifying information -- will again appear unless you opt out the new record. Similarly, if the way in which your name or address appears in a record differs from a record you opted out (e.g.,

"Michael" instead of "Mike," or "1212 Second AVE NE" instead of "1212-2nd Avenue Northeast"), we may include the differing record. Please also note that there may be more than one record on our Website associated with your personal information. Opting out one particular record will not opt out other record(s).In addition to this Website, there are many other companies offering public records search services, and your request that we opt out your information from this Website will not prevent your information from appearing on these other services.

Here’s how to opt out: In order for us to suppress or opt out your personal information from appearing on our Website, we need to verify your identity. To do this, we require faxed proof of identity. Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver's license. If you are uploading, faxing, or mailing a copy of your driver's license, we require that you cross out the photo and the driver's license number. We only need to see the name, address and date of birth. We will only use this information to process your opt out request. To submit your opt out request online, please click here, to submit via fax please send to 425-974-6194 or to submit via mail please send to Intelius Consumer Affairs PO Box 808 Bothell, WA 98041-0808. Allow 4 to 6 weeks to process your request. We will only process opt out requests received by online submission, fax, or mail and no request will be processed without complete information (i.e., name, address and date of birth). Requests for opt out will not be processed over the phone or via email.

MyLife.com This site owns a bunch of other nosy-we-give-out-your-info sites. They are listed below. I copied text from their privacy statement. This Privacy Policy applies to information MyLife.com collects online through its websites and other domains owned by MyLife.com, Inc. ("MyLife.com") including MyLife.com and other domains owned and operated by us. We refer to these websites as www.MyLife.com and to the other domains as the "MyLife.com Sites." Other domains include www.addressbook.com, www.myaddressbook.com, www.reunion.com, www.highschoolalumni.com, www.MyLife.com, www.whoislookingforyou.com, www.whoissearchingforyou.com, www.whosesearchingforyou.com, www.whossearchingforyou.com, and www.goodcontacts.com To request that a Member Profile or Public Profile be deleted, please contact Customer Care at 1888-704-1900 or contact us by email at [email protected]. Upon receipt of these requests, and confirmation that you are requesting that your own profile be removed, please allow MyLife 10 business days to complete this removal. It may be necessary to contact you to validate that you are the profile owner requesting the removal. This is to ensure the correct identity and profile ownership before completing these requests, and is for the protection of our users and their privacy.

Peoplefinders.com They give you a nifty pdf you can fill out and mail in to get off their database. You can find the form here: http://www.peoplefinders.com/optout-form.pdf

PeopleSearchNow.com This is directly from their site: Security & Privacy Will you remove me from your records? Yes, of course. We understand some people have sensitive situations, or have other reasons for wanting their public records removed from our services. We unfortunately cannot remove you from other companies, as they do not belong to us. You will need to contact them directly. The process is simple and easy. We just need you to mail a letter to us, so we can process it and retain a written copy of your request. In a letter signed by you, please include your first name, middle initial, last name, aliases and AKAs, your complete current address, your previous addresses, and date of birth to PeopleSearchNow.com / Opt-Opt, PO Box 29502 #64729, Las Vegas, NV 89126-9502.

PeopleSmart.com This is another one that seems to be owned or affiliated with Reputation.com. Getting your info off of here is pretty easy, but, you have to register on the site which is pretty annoying. First, go to the “opt out” page. http://my.peoplesmart.com/. Look your own name up. When you find it, click on the “this is me” button. You can then “manage your listing” but first you’ll have to register with the site. They too will try to sell you a monthly subscription to Reputation.com. The good news is, once you manage your listings here, your privacy settings will also be applied to these websites: •EmailFinder.com •FreePhoneTracer.com •PhoneDetective.com •Archives.com

PublicRecords.com (Also owned by Intelius.com, but I think you have to fax twice with their separate company names on each fax.) In order for PublicRecords to “opt out” your public information from being viewable on the PublicRecords website, we need to verify your identity and require faxed proof of identity. Proof of identity can be a state issued ID card or driver's license. If you are faxing a copy of your driver's license, we require that you cross out the photo and the driver's license number. We only need to see the name, address and date of birth. Please fax to 425-9746194 and allow 4 to 6 weeks to process your request. Each individual that wishes to be opted out of PublicRecords must be accompanied by proof of identity and address. We will only be processing opt out requests we receive by fax and no request will be processed without complete information. Requests for opt out will not be processed over the phone or via email.

Spokeo.com http://www.spokeo.com/privacy

Follow the instructions from there. (I wonder if Spokeo is owned by Reputation.com, or vice versa because one seems to promote the other.)

ZoomInfo.com Go to the site, look up your profile. Copy and paste the http address of your profile and e-mail it along with the request to remove your info to [email protected]. You can also communicate your request to change or delete Information in your Public Profile by telephone, email or postal mail by contacting: Zoom Information Privacy Site Coordinator 307 Waverley Oaks Road Waltham, MA 02452 Phone: 781.693.7500 Fax: 781.693.7510 Email: [email protected]

NOTE: ZoomInfo collects much of its Information from the web. Because they search millions of new and old web pages every day, Information about you may be acquired again by their service, or contributed by their users, without your knowledge. They recommend that you check back periodically to ensure that your Public Profile contains only the Information you choose to have displayed. Happy Privacy!
