1. HUD Homes in AZ: Pssst! Hey kid- wanna buy a house for $100 down? Yes, it is true. You want to get a place of your own for only $100 down? It does happen and it is not too good to be true. You may even have the owner (the Government) pay for your closing costs. Can you qualify? You can if you can get an FHA loan! Call your lender to find out. Today as you read this article just know there are hundreds of Government foreclosure homes in Arizona sitting empty waiting for someone to buy and move in. Probably some right in your neighborhood. Discover regular houses (single family detached), townhomes, condos, and manufactured homes that are all on the list. For example, in Mesa I found a 960 square foot, 2 bedroom, 2 bath Condo listed for only $26,000, which works out to $27/sf. On the other end of the spectrum in Mesa, I then found a 1,901 sf, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home listed for $146,000 that was built in 2008. The price works out to be $77/sf. The principal and interest payment for a $26,000 30-year loan at 5.25% works out to be approx. $144/month. Add insurance and taxes to, and you have maybe a $200/month payment. So, an apartment rents for maybe 3-5 times higher at $600-800/month. Which would you rather pay? One the one hand: $200 house payment, or on the other hand $600-800/month rent. Hmmm, let me think .

2. American Gothic: The Travelers are here in Mesa AZ So, the travelers finally made it safely to downtown. They don t look particularly tired or worn out. Just not quite sure how they got their pitchfork on board. Must have taken the bus. It is a painting come to life. First, some background. American Gothic is a painting by Grant Wood from 1930. Wood's inspiration came from a cottage designed in the Gothic Revival style with a distinctive upper window, and a decision to paint the house along with "the kind of people I fancied should live in that house." The painting shows a farmer standing beside a woman whose identity remains ambiguous; she may either be his spinster daughter, as explained by the artist's sister, or the farmer's wife.

A 25-foot foot tall interpretation of Grant Wood's famous (and often parodied) painting American Gothic sits on Main Street in downtown Mesa AZ. The sculptor is J. Seward Johnson. It's bigger than life showing earnest farm folk standing in the midst of the downtown traffic flow. Do they look lost maybe? Bryan Watkins sells real estate in Mesa AZ.
