First and foremost, i will like to thank the almight God the maker of hevean and earth who made it possible for me to be alive today and also gave me the strength to undetake this project. I equally acknowledge and appreciate DR. ADETUMBI my school supervisor and Mr. Akinbode of ARIZONA NETWORKS who gave me the opportunity to get the exposure that i will futher be explaining in the cause of this report. To my parents Mr. and Mrs. Ajayi and my siblings who were always there to give the unmeasurable support and understand when i could be available when they needed me, i remain greatfull. Also to my friends and co-workers especially Mr. Mike who was never tired of explaining to me when i did not understand, i say thank you.

CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION Set up in 1973, the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a program that provides an avenue for students in tertiary institution to gain pritical industrial exposure in their respective disciples during the course of their studies. This is to enable students to fix easily into industrial work environment after their academic careers. The SIWES was designed to bridge the divede between theoretical acquired knowledge by undergraduates in the University and its real life applications. This curriculum brings the various lessons taught at the various stages of the students' educational upbringing in their various fields of vocation.

1.1 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEME >Provide avenue for students in Nigerian Universities to acquire industrial skills and experience in their course of study >Prepare students for the work situation they are likely to meet after graduation >Expose students to work methods and techniques in handling equipments and machinery that may not be provided by the university. >Provide students opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real work situation, thereby bridging the gap between university work and act of practices.

1.2 Brief History of Arizona Networks Arizona network was established in the year 2002 marjorly to serve as an outsourcing firm provide communication link to other non-infomation technology companies like banks, oil serving firms, and so on. serves provided to these companies include installation of VSAT to provide broadband internet access, deployment of local area network, briding networks in different buildings using radio frequency, provision of remote access virtual private network and the likes. During the industrial training, students are exposed to the practical aspect of what was learnt in school, the first few weeks are used to teach students the basics of operation where some theory is involved, this is to ensure that students can work on their own with little supervision much later, even while still as trainees. During my 5 months stay, i was opportuned to partake in many different network modes, from transmission using VSAT to configuration of Virtual Local Area Network and the likes. Below is a list of some of the operation i carried out: 1) Configuration of switches and routers 2) Creation of virtual local area network (VLAN)

3) Installation and configuration of VSAT broadband internet access 4) Installation and configuration of access point and other infrastures for wireless communication 5) 1.2.1 ORGANIZATION’S OGANOGRAM

CHAPTER TWO INTERNETWORKING Connection of several computers in the same physical location to form a Local Area Network [LAN] was the first major computer based operation I carried out during my industrial training with Arizona networks. I was made to understand that several reasons exist for computer network, this include but no limited to, sharing of files, transfer of files, sharing of applications and resoures like the printer. I was equally introduced to other complex uses of a computer network such as the the VPN and VoIP but I will be talking about that in later chapters as I will presently be talking on the basics of computer network.

2.1 Basics Of Computer Network In order for me to be efficient in my operation, I had to go through the the foundation computer networks called the basics. I was told this will enable me to inderstand what was going on at each stage of the network, this in turn will help me configure and troubleshoot networks better.

What is a computer network A computer network is a group of computer and other network devices that are intelligently sharing hardware or software facilities with one another. Thus internetworking can be said to be the act of interconnecting and configuring network devices in such a way that they intelligently share some hareware and software facilities with one another. As work progressed I was able to learn that intelligent sharing means that each computer that shares a particular resourewith another computer or computers maintains control of that resource.

2.2 Network model During my training, I was made to understand by my supervisor that the network model was the most important part of the computer network. As I learnt further, I discovered that the this network model is like the basic plan to be followed when networking. It shows the movement of data along the network, the physical connection between each work stations, it also shows the applications used to access data in the network among others. I also found at that the network model was basically divided into two parts which include;

The OSL model is a seven-layer framework that defines and describes how software or hardware operating at that layer will act on the data packet being sent. The model consists of two functional blocks; 

The application block which is made up of three layers which include the application, presentation and the session layer. It is responsible for connecting software programs to the network.



The network block consists of the lower four layers which are, transport, network, datalink and the physical layer.

Fig 2.1; The OSI model The above pyramid shows the OSI model, but as I learnt, below are the description and functions of each of the layer.

Application layer; this layer provides services and utilities that enables application programs to access a network and its resources. This enables application to save files to the network server or print to network printers. The application layer also advertises resources that each system has available for network use.
