Business Communication: communication used to promote a product, service, or organization; relay information within the business; or deal with legal and similar issues. It is also a means of relying between a supply chain, for example the consumer and manufacturer. Business Communication encompasses a variety of topics, including Marketing, Branding, Customer relations, Consumer behavior, Advertising, Public relations, Corporate communication, Community engagement, Research & Measurement, Reputation management, Interpersonal communication, Employee engagement, Online communication, and Event management. It is closely related to the fields of professional communication and technical communication. Business Communication is an extensive sphere and in a business, communication is optimized to share and extend information and deal, after efficiently using the same medium to promote the business products and services. In an organization, there is consistent movement of information, legal and otherwise. Business Communication has a wide scope covering everything within branding, marketing, advertising, customer relations, research, reputation management and even employee engagement. The bigger the set up, the more extensive is the sharing and the level of business communication. Today, many businessmen use the techniques of effective communication to handle complex corporate interactions, community engagements, event management and global online communication. The application of business communication strategies: Business in the 21st century is conducted via a number of effectively linked channels of communication. These include the wireless medium or the internet, print, radio and television and word of mouth publication. The success of the strategy adopted for effective business communication lies in the correct analysis of the medium best suited for the business and thorough research and understanding of the medium adopted. The application could be web based for the 24x7 accessibility or via written communication through e-mail, which is instant and global. Another very effective medium for business communication is a presentation. In fact, a well planned and executed presentation is a business enhancer, within many organizations. A presentation usually involves audio-visual copies of reports and power point demonstrations and also conference telephonic meetings. Business communciation is also carried out via forum boards that enable people, management and customers, to consistently post information at a pre-determined centralized location. Of course, the most common and basic way of communicating within an organization is personal and up-front meeting. However, such personal meetings have to be supported with a written report and follow-up. Scope for business communication, within and beyond: Business communication can either take place within an organization or outside of it. Within the organization, the communciation takes place among the management and employees. Internal business communication involves effective communication of strategies and plans and emphasis on the corporate culture and shared values. Guiding principles to the new and existing staff are also taken care of via internal communication. Within the organization, the communication ensures the establishment of avenues for employee motivation and ideas. On the outside, the communication takes place between the organization and another one that is affiliated or related to the operations in some way or the other. External business communication involves the establishment of company branding and marketing ideas and strategies. Effective advertising and after sales customer and media relations with external links and individual parties are also dependent on communication. Important cross-pollination of ideas and technology is possible within departments and organizations only via effective business communication. In order to apply business communication strategies within an organisation, it is essential to first develop teamwork. Team-work contributes towards high levels of excellence and quality in the business and enhances every member s level of co-operation. This in turn, enables the staff to effectively persuade and negotiate and add to the profitability of the venture. Business communication is a very important tool in problem solving. In fact, the ability to successfully communicate determines the productivity and quality of every business activity!
