Michael Watt was the best of the bowlers with 3-25 off 5 overs. Nick Willson and Matt Beaton opened the batting for P&A Dawes and any slim hope of victory went the same way as Nick’s bat which broke as he was caught going for a boundary. CRONULLA SHARKS TO CANOWINDRA TIGERS  Club Coach Garry Whatman is delighted with the signing of Marc Slingsby, who has represented Group 10 and Western Region before a short stint with the Parramatta Eels. He then headed to the Sutherland Shire to represent the Sharks. 2011 will see Marc run out in the proud colours of the Tigers. How did the Tigers snare such a talented player? Quite simply his friendship with coach Garry and his son Nick. The delighted coach spoke in high praise of the young signing, “Marc is a fantastic young footballer and a great young man, he’ll fit in well with the local players we’ve already signed”. UNDER  19  19S  The under 19s took on Bathurst St Pats

last Saturday. In half very time hot conditions the Tigers led after but were run down by the Bathurst side in the second half. It was a very good first hit out for the young Tigers against a club that’s been training since before Christmas. This Sunday the under 18s in the team head to Dubbo to take part in the Group 11 trials.

SENIOR  C  CRICKET  Canowindra cruised to two easy wins in the last fortnight to continue their streak of 6 rounds without a loss. This almost assures Canowindra the minor premiership for the 2010/11 season.

SENIOR   C CRICKET CONTD  Canowindra started nervously with two early wickets falling in the opening 8 overs. Jacob Devlin then came to the crease and he and Pete Guthrie compiled a 68 run partnership in only 12 overs before Devlin

Hickman andwho Jamie attend to see gets Austin the cup.will have to Meanwhile improvers in the spoon were Jessica Bennett 5 seconds, Jamie Austin 4 seconds and Caitlin Brand 6 seconds over the heat, semi and final. Caitlin swam 3 seconds faster in the Final so she couldn’t collect the spoon Instead The Spoon went to Patrick Hickman who dropped his time by 2 seconds in the semi and another second in the final for a personal best of 56 seconds. Meg Austin was the won the belly flop competition and despite the older male swimmers swimming in the same relay team they couldn’t over come the lead of Lane 3. Relay winners were Sam Flannery, Brooke Kinsela, Ciaran Etty, Adelaide Ellis, Sophie Tremain, Hudson Izzard, Josie Clements, Alana Cramer, Eliza Mitchell and Caleb Giger. One final note could all swimmers remember that roll call is at 5:45pm. Could everyone try their best to be there by then to avoid confusion at the table. Swimmers coming up in dribs and drabs saying ‘I’m here’ makes working out heat numbers very confusing!!!!

On Saturday February Canowindra took on Valleys at19 Holman in Cowra. Canowindra batted first and scored 120, Pete Guthrie (38) Nic Whatman (19) Brendan Traves (19) and Nick Guthrie (19) were the main run scorers. Opening bowler Brendan Traves took a mammoth 7/13 off 8 overs. This was the main reason Canowindra bowled Valleys out so cheaply for 42. An incredible spell of bowling by Traves obviously earned him the man of the match. Last Saturday 26 February Canowindra played Morongla, again in Cowra. Captain Nick Guthrie lost the toss and Canowindra fielded first. Opening bowlers Nick Guthrie and Brendan Traves bowled well and managed to pick up a wicket each in their opening spells and the score was 2/30 after 16 overs. First change bowlers Pete Guthrie (3/18) and Jacob Devlin (3/23) bowled 9 overs each and ripped through the middle order. This left the lower order exposed for opening bowlers Nick Guthrie (1/20) and Traves (1/26) who came back on to bowl out their last few overs at the end of the innings and restricted Morongla to 86 off 40 overs. Skipper Nick Guthrie only used the four bowlers. In reply,

(31) was at deep 2 runs shy of thecaught required total. mid-wicket Guthrie (48no) hit the winning runs off the next ball to pass the total in the twenty first over. This now should mean Canowindra’s lead at the top of the ladder is unreachable. Next week Canowindra play their last round game against Grenfell at home and can hopefully get another win to continue their momentum going into the finals.
