Helping Prisoners Each day, da y, inmates inmates in i n U.S. U.S. correctional c orrectional institutions write dozens of letters to the offices of Jehovah’s Jehovah’s Witnesses, requesting spi ritual help. help. We respond respo nd to such r equests, equests, arranging arranging for ministers i n local congregations to visit visi t and study the the Bible Bi ble with those those in i n jails, jails, prisons, pri sons, state hospitals, youth youth faci facilities lities,, and substance-abuse substance-abuse faciliti facilities. es. In some prisons, p risons, our ministers conduct conduct regular congregation meetings. meeti ngs. At one o ne facility facili ty,, for example, 32 atten a ttended ded a public lecture lecture given gi ven in two of the prison pris on yards. yards. The results have been encouraging. A man incarcerated in the state of Indiana, who had received a life sentence for first-degree murder, made posi tive changes changes in i n his his personality and and was baptized b aptized as one of Jehovah’s Jehovah’s Witnesses. Regarding another inmate inmate who has been held in a large correctional complex in California, Ca lifornia, the Witness who studie studied d the Bible Bi ble with him him said: sa id: “I’ve seen where where he’s come c ome from and the progress he’s made.
