I Love Grilling I love spring and summer for many reasons, but one of the greatest is that it affords me more opportunities to grill. I don’t really know what it is, because because other opportunities to cook don’t entice me, but grilling is exciting. I think I’d even grill spaghetti if I thought it would work. Funny thing is that even after years of grilling I’m not even very good at it, but slowly I’m getting better at it. I was blessed to get a gas grill as a house warming gift eleven years ago. ago. The igniter has long since stopped working and so I’ve turned to the 98 cent torch solution. That’ That’ss how the grilling experience begins… turn on the gas and with quick flick of the flame – whoosh – we’re cookin’ with gas! That controlled fire grants some amazing meals – especially when other people besides me are doing the grilling! I have respect for for that moment of lighting the grill. A leak in the tank, getting my face too close to the grill, or some other small inattention to what I am doing could become extremely destructive. destructive. I’ve seen propane tanks explode on TV and I don’t want it to happen at my house! James in the Bibles says the same about the tongue: “Consider what a great forest forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue is also a fire… With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who have been made in God’s God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing… this should not be.” (James 3:5-6, 9-10) The point is this: Left untamed, some of our quirks can be extremely destructive, but when controlled and redirected for God’s purposes, those same character traits can be a powerful demonstration of the gospel. Every Sunday in worship this summer, summer, we will look at a different disciple. disciple. Each one had a personality personali ty quirk or characteristic that Jesus redeemed and used to advance his kingdom. In fact, in the days and years following following the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the believers during Pentecost the gospel message has spread around the world like wild fire. fire. It all began as disciples long ago ago allowed God to consume them. Summer is for grilling. What if every time you lit the grill or ate something from the grill you prayed, “God, what part of me do you want to consume for your glory?” Imagine what God could do if we allowed allowed God to completely consume us and we were ignited for for his purposes – quirks and all! The combustion might be so compelling that people’s people’s lives would begin igniting all around us! Oh, the the thrill of grilling! Mike Maxwell

New Life Weekday Preschool Celebrates a Great Year New Life Preschool celebrated its 7th year of ministry with an end-of-the-year show and graduation. With over 100 people in attendance, we sang praises to God, watched a PowerPoint presentation of pictures throughout the school year and saw our 4-year old class graduate. Immediately following the school year, we held a “Summer Music Camp.” Here children made various musical instruments (rain sticks, tambourines, guitars, etc.), learned some music terminology and played lots of different types of instruments including a keyboard, bongos and kazoos.  Registration is in full swing for our Fall school year. Although our 4-year old class is currently full, we have space available in our 3-year old and 2-year old classes. If you know anybody that would like more information about our Weekday Preschool, please have  them contact Tracy Cooper, Director at 794-4522.
