KNOW ABOUT ALLERGIES

Cockroach Allergies Overview
One way that people get allergic reactions is through contact with animal's skin and saliva. Animal allergies may take two or more years to develop. Months may be utilized until symptoms diminish. Congestion and sneezing are included in the symptoms as well as itchy and watery eyes. It is possible that avoidance of the animal being allergic to can be a treatment. An individual may find nasal steroids, decongestants, antihistamines helpful. For severe allergic symptoms, immunotherapy can be recommended. Insects such as cockroaches can bring similar symptoms. Treatments can be the same. One can avoid recurrence of pet dander allergy by simply removing the pet from the home. Weekly washings of pets should be done. Pets should not be allowed on upholstery. Removing the trash bins can prevent cockroach allergy.

Soap and Detergent Allergy
You may think that it's the chemicals that make you itch, but actually it's not. Surprise: “Most of the skin reactions are not caused by the cleaning chemicals but by perfume additives,” Dr. Wedner says. "Almost every soap are being added with plant extracts like roses and edelberries to make it look fancy. The skin may react with irritation, and give you itchiness due to rashes.” What to do: Do not use soaps that are non-organic, scented, have additives and contain phthalate. Read the label of the soaps. Although phthalates are known to help improve texture, they are also known to cause allergic reactions. Products that contain such chemical may have “diethyl phthalate” on the label. Examples of low irritant products are Ivory, Dove, and Tide, as well as other organic brands.

Pollen Allergy Explained
The pollen grains of plants used for reproduction, usually round or oval are microscopically small and they cannot be seen by the naked eye. Some Plant species use the pollen from its own flowers to fertilize itself. Some plant species must be cross-pollinated. In order for cross-pollination to take place, the pollen must be transported from one flower to another of the same species so that fertilization will take place and seeds will form. Flowering plants sometimes depends on the wind to carry their pollen and for some, they rely on insects. Plants with showy flowers do not cause allergic reactions but it is the plain looking plants (trees, grasses, and weeds) that do. Pollen grains have to be custom-made for wind transport and therefore have to be small, light and dry.

Latex Allergy
Medical equipment, gloves, and condoms with latex content are some of the products people with latex allergy should avoid. They are very offending products which will trigger allergic reactions. Once latex allergy is triggered, symptoms will appear. These allergic reactions include itchiness of the skin and eyes. Skin rashes or eczema may develop. Other symptoms include cough, wheezing and shortness of breath. Hypersensitivity reactions to latex may be as mild as skin rashes and be as severe as anaphylaxis. During an anaphylactic reaction, a person may experience dyspnea, development of hives, edema, and gastrointestinal problems. Removing products that has latex is considered as treatment of latex allergy. Antihistamines and epinephrine can relieve allergic reactions. If you are diagnosed with latex allergy, it is very important that you always wear a medicAlert bracelet. You should also carry an epinephrine emergency kit all the time. If you are diagnosed with latex allergy, you should not use products with latex content.

Drug Allergy Overview
When using any type of drug, one must consider its possible effects. Every individual should be extra careful when choosing drugs to take. Some drugs provide clealy stated instruction. However, its side effects may be hard to predict. Experiencing several symptoms of allergies all together is really difficult. For example, a person experiences swellings, trouble breathing, itching, rashes and hives all at once. Some medications that are commonly used are more allergenic compared to other medications, based on several patients’ experiences. Anti-inflammatory drugs, penicillin, antibiotics in general, and aspirin are considered drugs that give side effects. Anti-inflammatory drugs may give similar effects as an allergic response when taken with penicillin. However, IGE may not be involved. Various types of drugs that give similar symptoms like an allergic reaction are vancomycin, intravenous x-ray dyes, paclitaxel, morphine and ACE inhibitors.
