Who would you choose as your sponsor for that bill that you have in mind? A legislative act that centers on Human Rights, be it the rights of women, men, or children, would best be sponsored by someone who advocates and have so much drive to defend the equality and protection of both sexes. This topic definitely concerns the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights chaired by Senator Francis Joseph “Chiz” Guevara Escudero and the Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives chaired by Hon. Rene L. Relampagos, Representative of the 1st District of Bohol. The Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights concerns “all matters relating to the organization and administration of justice, civil courts, penitentiaries and reformatory schools; probation; impeachment proceedings against constitutional officers and other officers legally removable by impeachment; registration of land titles; immigration and naturalization; the implementation of the provisions of the Constitution on human rights; and all matters pertaining to the efficiency and reforms in the prosecution service. (Rule X, Section 13 (15)” The Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives, on the other hand, deals with “all matters directly and principally relating to the protection and enhancement of human rights, assistance to victims of human rights violations and their families, the prevention of violations of human rights and the punishment of perpetrators of such violations.” With that said, the issue at hand definitely falls under the ambit of the said committees and thus would best be sponsored by Sen. Escudero and Hon. Relampagos.
