ECM..off...there was a push -pull cable attached to the
throttle
Resolved Question:
Donnie....Can the ECM be tested if it is completly off the machine...It is off.. there was a push -pull cable attached to the
throttle in order to move it around.. I want to get it going again the way it's supposed to.

The ecm cannot be tested off machine. It does have lights on it and as long as the red light is not on it may just be a
problem in the harness.
Testing can be done through the monitor, if the display is readable and switches are working.
Can you send me the serial number again?

Donnie...sorry about being away so long......It is 9RL00153......3116 ENGINE

Expert: catmastertech replied 4 years ago.
This will take a bit of explaining but, it all can be done through the monitor as long as everything on the monitor is
working. The Governor Actuator is controlled by the ECM and works with several components. You will need to test the
components with the monitor to get the codes so we can find the best way to test or replace the bad components.

Service Operations

Introduction
The monitor panel activates and displays the output received from the controller. There are two Service Operations modes;
Data Mode and Calibration Mode. Each mode has a particular function as follows:

Data Mode
This service operation mode contains eight different functions and provides the necessary information for the service
person to determine the machine condition. The data mode is also used to assist in troubleshooting machine problems.

Calibration Mode
This service operation mode contains ten different functions and provides information used to adjust and confirm
system/component operation after replacement of electronic control system components. The calibration mode is also used
to assist in troubleshooting machine problems.

NOTE: If the governor or pump backup switches are not in the AUT position these service operation modes will not operate
correctly. If the following characters are shown on the monitor display, check the position of the backup switches.

[A ]; when governor backup switch is in the MAN position.

NOTE: The same information is shown when problems occur in the governor actuator harness. Use extra care not to
mistake this for a backup mode indication.

[H ]; when pump backup switch is in the TORTOISE position.

[U ]; when both pump and governor backup switches are in the TORTOISE and MAN positions.

Data Mode
NOTE: Activation of data mode does not affect any of the machine controls and operations except for the monitor panel
key indicators. These indicators are used to designate which data mode function is currently being shown on the monitor.

The data mode contains the following function modes which provide eight categories of information. The functions are
listed in the order that they are accessed from data mode.

* Power Shift Pressure
* Engine Speed
* Engine Coolant Temperature
* Hydraulic Oil Temperature
* A/D (Analog/Digital) Conversion
* Real Time Error
* Digital Input
* Output Control Display

(1) Service 1 key.

Entering And Exiting Data Mode

To Enter Data Mode:
NOTE: To access and view the eight available functions in Data Mode, the engine can either be running or shut down. If
the engine is running the eight functions are viewed as operating values. If the engine is not running the starter switch
must be in the ON position.

Press and hold the ALARM CANCEL key. When the ALARM CANCEL indicator begins FLASHING, continue to hold the ALARM
CANCEL key and press and hold the POWER key. When the POWER III indicator begins FLASHING release both keys.

Data mode is now activated and the character display will show the first function value (power shift pressure).

NOTE: If the ALARM CANCEL and POWER key are held too long, the character display may scroll to one of the other
functions.

To Exit Data Mode:
Press and hold the ALARM CANCEL key for at least two seconds. The engine speed dial position is shown on the character
display when the data mode has been exited.

Data mode can also be exited by turning the key start switch to the OFF position.

Data Mode Function Selection
1. To change the function selected, at the same time press the ALARM CANCEL key and the POWER key. While holding the
ALARM CANCEL key, press and release the POWER key until the desired function is selected, as shown by the flashing
indicator. Use the following chart to match the flashing indicator to the function.

We are going for error codes, real time codes will be shown when engine is running and the components have be activated.

Real Time Error
When this function is selected, travel speed HIGH (RABBIT) indicator flashes. The character display shows the error codes
for problems that exist now (present). They are displayed in an increasing number sequence. in a repetitious manner. Each
error code is shown for two seconds with a blank display shown for one second between each code. For a list of the
possible error codes, see the topic Troubleshooting Detected Faults in the Testing And Adjusting section.

NOTE: An error code of E00, indicates that there are no system errors.
The next step would be to check for logged codes. This is slightly different way to enter than the data mode.

Entering And Exiting Calibration Mode

To Enter Calibration Mode:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTICE

Before the start of the calibration mode, the engine speed dial switch should be set at dial position 1 and the key start
switch must be in the OFF position.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Press and hold the service I key while starting the engine or turning the key start switch to ON. As shown in the chart
above, the engine does not need to be started to obtain information for certain functions. Continue to hold the service I
key until the action lamp turns ON. All the alert indicators should be OFF.

Calibration mode is now activated and the character display will show the first function value (machine and engine model
numbers). The action lamp remains ON during calibration mode.

NOTE: Activation of the calibration mode overrides the AEC function and keeps the power shift pressure constant at a
pressure level equivalent to a no-load condition. Calibration mode also overrides the function of the gauges, the action
lamp and the alert indicators. The engine speed dial switch works normally.

To Exit Calibration Mode
Use either of the following two methods:

Press and hold the service I key for at least two seconds or until the engine speed dial position is shown on the character
display.

Calibration Mode can also be exited by turning the key start switch to the OFF position.

Error Log
To select this function, press the POWER key one to three times to turn ON the POWER I indicator. The character display
shows the [Hd ]. This indicates that the list of stored error codes can be viewed. The controller continuously monitors the
engine and pump control system for problems during machine operation. If any problems (continuous or intermittent) are
detected the controller stores the appropriate error code. The list of error codes is stored until cleared.

The error codes can be shown in either ascending or descending order. Each time the AEC key is pressed, a sequential list
of error codes in ascending order is shown on the display. Example:

[Hd ]

[F 6]

[F10]

[F40]

[F41]

[End]

Each time the WASHER key is pressed, a sequential list of error codes in descending order is shown on the display.
Example:

[End]

[F41]

[F40]

[F10]

[F 6]

[Hd ]

To clear the error codes from the error log, push and hold the AEC key then the POWER key, then the TRAVEL SPEED key.
Do not release any keys until [CLr] is shown on the display. After the error log is cleared the display shows [Hd ]. Always
clear the error log after the problems have been corrected.

Reference: These error codes are the same as the real time error codes, except that the real time codes have an E instead
an F. For a listing of error codes, see the topic Data Mode, Real Time Error.

NOTE: The following error codes are not logged by the controller:

F1 to F5, F7, F9, F12, F15, F32, F34, F37, F38, F39, and F48.

Here is the list of codes. Try to access the monitor to see what codes are logged. Do not clear them at this time, we will do
that later. Make sure the G/A is connected (throttle control box wiring) it is not important to have the throttle cables
connected to the engine.
Also check the ecm lights and see if the green light is on.

Reply with any questions and we can work through them, it will take a few tries to get the codes but, it will help element
other problems.

WOW! Thanks.....the governor actuator?? I'm assuming the cables must work freely but is there a way to check it?? Also
I'm well satisfied with the answer and I know you must have went to a lot of time , Make an accept page for me but first
can the governor actuator be checked off the machine. Also that other(about the swivel seal) question needs to be closed
as I already pd the 48 dollars. This one gets bonus for sure. Thanks again
Expert: catmastertech replied 4 years ago.
Thanks for your patience, I have been out on a large excavator and getting back in late.
The G/A box has a feedback sensor (potentiometer) and the power and control circuits. Not much to check and the only kit
is for the cables. Open the box and send current to the motor terminal to test the motor and inspect it for damage or
broken wires. Here is a schematic of the box's wiring.

Did you get to the fault codes?
