Magazine article draft.
She is the biggest solo artist in UK right now and with a British Breakthrough Brit Award tucked firmly under her belt, she’s ready to take on the world. It’s been a whirlwind year for Amy with her 3 year relationship with rugby player Dean Jones breaking down under the watchful eye of the public and her first album going platinum; she has truly been through it all. Here she sits with her morning Starbucks in hand, her hair scraped back in to a messy bun and looks ready to open up to Microphone.

On her early life
Amy hasn’t had the easiest life to say the least, with her dad dying when she was just 5 years old, she’s lived with her mum and two younger sisters and spent most of her time being a carer for them whilst struggling in school. Amy says; “I began my life living in the small town of Solihull inside a council flat with my mother and two sisters. I don’t have glamorous roots and I was never rich in the way of money. I was rich with love”. Despite this, Amy always made time for her singing lessons with her now manager, Christopher Charles, who was so astounded by her talent at the age of 11, he agreed to tutor her for free, “Christopher and I have known eachother for 10 years and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. He comes everywhere with me and in many ways he is my best friend”, she tells Microphone. Her lack of attention in school meant that she didn’t have the qualifications to attend college when she turned 16 and turned to work instead and spent 4 years waitressing in a restaurant nearby, singing only in her spare time. My singing took over my life and it had a very derogatory effect on my education, I didn’t turn up to lessons, I handed my work in late and I was rude to my teachers. When I went home, I wasn’t doing my homework or studying, I was dancing around my room thinking of new routines and writing songs to practice with Christopher”. “My first big break happened when I turned 18. I was singing in a local pub in Small Heath and at the end of my act, a tall blonde woman approached me and there and then I was scouted. The company she worked for arranged me gigs at different Midlands’s events, bars and other places and I performed at every chance I got, Christopher of course, still supporting me at every turn.” Amy went from waitressing to singing on a stage in seconds, literally running from place to place, she sometimes even sang in the restaurants she was working in straight after her shift.

On her first big break
Finally her manager, Christopher, managed to get EMI company Polydor to listen to one of Amy’s EP’s and she was called the next day to be signed. “I remember the day I got that call”, she smiles and twirls her hair, “it was the happiest day of my life. I had been working myself to the bone and had so little hope left of becoming a pop star, I thought it was impossible. My career pretty much took off from there and I wrote my first single ‘Breaking free’ whilst sitting in a hotel room waiting to discuss my record contract. It meant the world to me that that debut single shot straight to number one.”

On her love life
Once Amy was catapulted in to the spotlight her relationship with Dean Jones became public and it went down a rocky road. ‘Me and Dean went through the wars with our relationship once I became famous. We never saw eachother, rumours were constantly spread around and we would argue over things both of us knew weren’t true. Our relationship ended when he decided he had had enough of the paparazzi’s attention and wanted to live a normal life and he knew with me , that it wasn’t possible. Most of the songs on my last album were written about him and the heartbreak I went through infront of the UK public.’

On her next album
Amy hasn’t been interested in dating since and has been working on her highly anticipated second album which she says is going to be ‘edgy and something unique’. Her main love is her music. She is also currently planning her first ever UK tour and the dates are still yet to revealed. ‘I am extremely

excited to see my fans and sing my heart out to them. They have given me the best gift ever - a chance to sing for a job.
