April 10 Class 2 Leading Volunteers in Urban Restoration Learn to effectively lead and motivate volunteers during ecological restoration work! Sat. After the final exam, we will end the program with a picnic lunch and discussion.

The 5th Annual Wissahickon Trail Classic

Needed: Runners, Walkers, Hikers, Volunteers, and SPONSORS! It’s almost that time of year! Join us for a challenging 10K trail run or scenic 5K walk along trails in the Wissahickon Valley Park. This is the premier trail race in Philadelphia. Proceeds from the race directly benefit the Wissahickon Valley Park. Saturday, March 27, 2010 10:00 AM-1:00 PM Ecological Restoration Leader Program CLASS ONE: Ecological Restoration Pachella Field Pavilion, Roxborough Join us for the first class of a FREE three-part course aimed at educating participants on the science of ecological restoration and the art of working with volunteers. Class One covers current restoration techniques and plant identification. Participants are welcome to attend all or some of the classes. 11:00 AM- 3:00 PM Maple Sugar Day in the Wissahickon Join us on Forbidden Drive (near Northwestern Avenue) for our annual MAPLE SUGAR DAY. There will be ongoing maple sugaring demonstrations, pancakes served with real maple syrup, as well as freshly made maple candy to taste. Pennsylvania maple syrup products will be available for purchase. All ages welcome. Cost: Free 215-685-9285

Volunteer with WRV in April!
Join us on the 2nd Saturday and 3rd Sunday of April to take part in our on-going restoration activities. Project details will be sent with the next e-mail and also posted on our website at www.wissahickonrestorationvolunteers.org. 9:00 AM- 3:00 PM Fairmount Park Volunteer Day David Bower from Fairmont Park will be leading a volunteer session on the Yellow Trail. Volunteers will remove fallen trees, knock down a huge snow pile at the trailhead, and clean up a small party site. Location: End of 900 block of Cathedral Rd in Roxborough

2:00 PM- 4:00 PM Wissahickon Geology Meet at Valley Green Inn. This rock talk and field trip is suitable for children over 10 accompanied by an adult. We will discuss the possible Precambrian formation of Wissahickon rocks, learn to identify five different rock types, and then look at the rocks on the east side of the creek between Valley Green Rd. and the Megargee Dam.
