Microsoft
A multinational/multinational corporation(MNC) is a large corporation which has
operations and subsidiaries in several different countries, but has its headquarters in its
home country.
Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational software corporation
headquartered in Redmond, Washington that develops, manufactures, licenses and
supports a wide range of products and sevices related to computing.
Microsoft is the world’s largest software maker measured by revenues. It is also
one of the world’s most valuable company.
Bill Gates founded Microsoft (originally named “Micro-Soft”) in 1975 after
dropping out of Harvard at the age of 19 and teaming up with High School friend Paul
Allen to sell a version of the programming language BASIC. Gates moved Microsoft to
Seattle in 1979 and began developing software that let other write programs, thus the
modern personal computer was born in 1980 when IBM choose Microsoft to write the
operating system for its new machines. In 1985 Microsoft and IBM forge a joint
development agreement. The company went public in 1986 and Gates became the
industry’s first billionaire a year later. In 1990 the company becomes the first PC
software firm to surpass $1 billion of sales in a single year. In 2000 Gates named Steve
Ballmer the new CEO of the company and he remained chairman and added the title of
chief software architect to himself.
Their production includes operating system includes office productivity suite –
MS Office, business applications software, games and software for mobile phones and
handheld devices.
Microsoft’s technology strategy service enables business innovation and helps
builds the company’s competitive advantage. Microsoft’s technology strategy helps
organizations improve IT service excellence, lower costs and build competitive
advantage through the innovative application of the Microsoft platform.
Bill Gates says that their vision is “to create innovative technology that is
accessible to everyone and that adapts to each person's needs. Accessible technology
eliminates barriers for people with disabilities and it enables individuals to take full
advantage of their capabilities."
Currently over 60 million people use Microsoft's products on their computers.
Microsoft has become one of the largest companies whose stock prices are intensely
pursued Wall Street and the millions of investors rigorously pursue his daily work. The
company is present in Romania since 1992.
Criticism of Microsoft has followed the company's existence because of various
aspects of its products and business practices. Ease of use, stability, and security of the
company's software are common targets for critics.
The company has been in numerous lawsuits by several governments and other
companies for unlawful monopolistic practices.
Microsoft has been criticized for its involvement in censorship in the People's
Republic of China. Microsoft has also come under criticism for outsourcing jobs to China
and India. There were reports of poor working conditions at a factory in southern China
that makes some of Microsoft's products.

Microsoft currently employs 88,180 people who work across 32,404,796 square
feet of Microsoft's premises, over 50,000 of which are U.S.-based. The male to female
ratio is very high among Microsoft's American employees with a staggering 76% male
workforce. Microsoft India conducted special recruitment drives exclusively for women
in line with the overall IT industry's aim of raising the female-male ratio in the workforce.
Microsoft has a reputation in the industry for asking off-beat, off-the-wall
questions during its job interview. The most oft-quoted question is: "Why is a manhole
cover round?".
Rather than plain "Where do you see yourself in five years" type questions,
Microsoft is more likely to ask you to solve a logic puzzle or think through a problem like
"Design a coffee maker that will be used by astronauts".
In conclusion, Microsoft will go down in history as one of the most innovative
companies that have changed the way people go about their daily lives. Microsoft has
come a long way from the days of settling lawsuits with numerous companies to being
the powerful software giant in the world today. With technology comes innovation, and
Microsoft has proven that it can be technological innovative with all of the great products
that we have seen from them over the years. Given the company’s strategies, core
competencies, dynamics and innovative breakthroughs, it is no wonder why Microsoft
has lasted this long, and will be around for many more years to come.
With such a vast presence, much has already been written about Microsoft: Its
history, its products, even its former CEO Bill Gates. For those itching to know even
more, we've dug up some snippets of info that you might not have heard before.
The first ever mention of "Microsoft" was in a letter from Bill Gates to co-founder
Paul Allen in 1975. Gates initially wrote the company name as “Micro-Soft”, which made
sense considering it's a portmanteau of "microcomputer" and "software".
Microsoft's favorite food is pizza.
Ever since the company's first operating system, Microsoft has worked on its
projects under codenames, of which Wikipedia has a long list. Apparently Gates was
ready to launch Windows under the name "Interface Manager" before he was
persuaded to change it by an employee.
The average Microsoft employee, or "Softie" as they call themselves, is a 38year-old male with the average salary for a developer coming in at $106,000.
Microsoft celebrates anniversaries with M&Ms. All companies have their little inhouse traditions and Microsoft is no exception. It seems it's customary for “Softies” to
celebrate their yearly employment anniversaries with candy, and more specifically,
M&Ms.
Microsoft has split its stock nines times since it went public back in March 1986.
Put very, very simply, a company will generally split its stock when its share price
becomes too high.
Microsoft is one of the largest corporate collectors of artworks with over 5,000
contemporary pieces including painting, sculpture, works on paper, photographs,
ceramics, studio glass and multimedia works.
Also, it was one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies list 4 years in a row.
