Money Saving Tips for Students
1. Store cents in your coin purse. Use your golden and bronze currency to
pay for jeepney fare, most of the drivers never return the Php 0.50 change if
you give Php 6.0 on a Php 5.50 fare.
Use your cents and notice that you will be saving more. Let’s make a
calculation of the possible amount you can save on a semester. Considering
you are taking two rides to get to school from home and vice versa.
0.50 x 4 jeepney rides a day = 2
2 x 5 days a week = 10
10 x 4 weeks a month = 40
40 x 5 months a semester = 200
At the end of the semester you just saved Php 200.00!
2. Don’t enter into a relationship if you cannot afford the expenses. We
interviewed students 30 students who are engaged in a relationship and upon
calculation their expenses averages to 500 a month for presents, dates, extra
load for unlimited calls and texts. Focusing on your studies will save you…
500 x 5 months per semester = 2,500.00, plus extra higher grade!
3. Bring your own rice. Buying food for lunch is very common among
students and there is a separate budget just for food, but it would be a good
money saver if you bring your own rice for lunch. Let’s calculate the
estimated savings in a semester for a one cup of rice.
10 per cup x 5 days a week = 50
50 x 4 weeks a month = 200
200 x 5 months per semester = 1,000.00
4. Reduce cellular phone load. It is estimated that most of the students
spends at least Php 50 per week on cellphone load alone not just for texting
and calling, but for mobile internet too.
It averages to Php 10.00 per week day. If we reduce load consumption to 4
days a week there will be a Php 10.00 savings per week.
10 x 4 weeks = 40
40 x 5 = 200.00 per semester savings on load.
If we are going to sum up all the savings
Saving Cents
= 200.00
lovelife
= 2,500.00
Extra Rice = 1,000.00
Load
= 200.00
----------------------------------total savings = 3,900.00 per semester
That is 7,800.00 per year
31,200.00 during your 4 years in college.
