Organizational Structure When we look at motivation, a motive is a reason for doing something. Motivationis goal-directed behaviour concerned with the factors that influence people to behave in certain ways and to take discretionary action. Motivating people is about getting them to behave in a way that will produce a desired result. Self-motivationis about deciding yourself where you want to go and ensuring that you get there. Wellmotivated peopleare those with clearly defined goals who take action that they expect will achieve those goals. An employee¶s performance is influenced by motivation, ability and the working environment. Motivation is regarded as an important factor in organizations and significance as a determinant of performance. There are several theories which were described by professionals and researchers such as Maslow, McGregor, and Fredrick Herzberg etc. Employee's performance is prone to be influenced by motivation, ability, and the work environment. When it comes to motivation,ESI is practicing Frederick Herzberg¶s Two Factor Theory. His theory divides job satisfaction into two factors:
y

Hygiene factor: working conditions, quality of supervision, salary, safety, and company policies.

y

Motivation factor: achievement, recognition, responsibility, the work itself, personal growth, and advancement.

ESI employees are satisfied mainly through hygiene factors such as:
y y

High salary: par above the industry norms Job security: operation divisions in many parts of the world and well established during a short period of time.

y

Quality working place:employees deal with all modern technology and equipment with very good working conditions and facilities.

y

Company policies

Flexi working hours Casual dress code policy: Management needs employees to work comfortably in the workplace.

ESI has to understand that these factors are helping to ensure that the employees are not dissatisfied but they do not put out their best efforts for the company. ESI is a software house and software developers and engineers dealing with computers most of their time. It is to be understood that they should be satisfied in order to take out their maximum output.

When it comes to motivational strategy following motivational factors also should be considered as they play a vital role and most important part in employee satisfaction.

The employees need to perform well or strive for success, and evidenced by persistence and effort in the face of difficulties. They need to be successful in achieving high goals and to be identified the contribution and the commitment of the extra mile they go, the effort they put towards work. It is great when employee is doing well and he is recognized for his good work at least by patting on the back saying ³good job´, sing praises in the team as they enjoy receiving recognition for hard work. And even the ones who don¶t put effort are also somehow encouraged with this kind of recognition. As behavioral research indicates people are happiest when they¶re learning new skills or challenging old ones and willing to be paid less for work that¶s interesting, fun, and teaches new skills. A recent article cites a study by two researchers suggesting that workers would be happy to forgo raise if it meant a job with more variety or one that required more skill. So job should be enriched, enlarged and rotated where they utilize their full potentiality and can learn, explore new techniques and solve problems. areas. They should be provided on the job learning which enablesthem to learn from challenging tasks. The encouragement for independent thinking, quick decision making, be responsible for the team¶s action and willingness to take a bullet for the team are high motivators whichtends to revert as maximum output as well as a good product. If an employee demonstrates increasing levels of ability increasing levels of responsibility should be given. The authority to make decisions without calling a meeting and make them empowered is a huge motivational factor. They will feel they took the right decision at right time. They will be responsible for their actions and decisions. Employees are motivated by the need to grow and personal advance. ESI though has performances review, Training & Development budgeted 0.75mn annually, does not work well. The review process should identify the capabilities and provide the opportunity for career development, personal growth and advancement. Employees should be trained in the skills essential for meeting the challenges which develops a fully functional career ladder.ESI should provide high performers with the kinds of work that matter most for long term career development. Employees tend to get restless with the work and get bored. The mind start wandering so they check email, start SKYPE or Facebook, read a few blogs to avoid it. Those kinds of environment should be enhanced where as the employees are given freedom where they do not abuse it. Such fun work like Chess or Sudoku will prevent them getting bored as well as challenging. Therefore in order for better employee satisfaction it is understood that employees should be motivated prioritized with motivational factors of Herzberg.
