8 Days
Dignity Initiative
The movie presented a story of a girl and how her life changed within 8 days.
It shows that a girl goes out with a friend, without her parents’ permission,
and meets a group of strangers who study at her school. The group turns out
to be involved with a man who kidnaps the girl and rapes her. She is then
sold to a gang who rents her out to different men for sexual purposes. Within
8 days this girl is drugged and abused by 50 men. The house where all of this
took place also had two prostitutes who had a similar childhood but were
now too used to this life. The police ended up finding the girl in the custody
of these two prostitutes. The gang never got caught.
The real struggle began when it was time for the girl’s rehabilitation. This
part was not clearly shown in order to portray that this is what our society
lacks. Although this girl recovers and stands up against sexual abuse but
there are others who never recover. They either end up isolating themselves
or killing themselves.
The overall script and the way the story was put up wasn’t so good. It was
presented in a way that an incident is being told. If the writer wishes to make
the movie reach out to a large audience, then the script needs to have
elements that attract the public. Introducing action, drama, suspense would

help reaching a larger audience. No one wants to sit down and watch a harsh
movie until they are forced to do so.
On the contrary the acting was outstanding. Small moments that were a part
of this film were worth more than a thousand words. One of the moments
that pinched my heart was when the abused girl comes back to her house
after being rescued and she moved away from her father when he touched
her. Every actor did justice to their character except for the kidnapper who
kidnaps the girl in the first place. His acting conveyed the message but didn’t
really portray a criminal.
In my opinion the film was able to send the message across but in order to
reach the public and create demand for the movie essentials such as drama,
suspense and action are required. This way people would look forward to
watch this film and the message will be sent to a bigger audience.
