WellWed Magazine Sends Staff Member to Aid in Disaster Relief; Donating Portion of Magazine Sale Proceeds to Cause. (Burlington, VT)-May 18, 2010-Between May 1 and May 2 of 2010, an unprecedented amount of rain poured on Nashville, TN, causing severe flooding across the city. The Cumberland River, a large waterway that flows throughout the area, rose 13 feet above flood stage, taking the lives of over 30 citizens and causing around 2 billion dollars in estimated damages. Jana Devereaux, Marketing Coordinator for Vermont Vows and WellWed Magazines, quickly heard about the disaster through immediate family who call Nashville home. While her family members were not directly affected, the lives and homes of their friends and their community were. Coincidentally, WellWed and Vermont Vows magazines had scheduled a gown photo shoot in Charleston, South Carolina a few weeks before-occuring right around the time cleanup was beginning. After relaying the information of the tragedy to editor and publisher, Krista Washburn, the two came up with a plan to allow Jana to extend her stay, go to Tennesee and aid in disaster cleanup. On May 10, Jana toured some of the hardest-hit areas of Nashville, interviewed victims, took photographs of the damage, and aided in cleanup with Service International, a nonprofit disaster relief organization. “Disaster…that is the only way I know how to describe it,” noted Jana. “Everything below the water line-about 6 feet up where we were- was destroyed. The roads were lined for miles with the waterlogged possesions of the victims; essentially, the first floor of every house in an affected area was ruined and cleared out completely.” The Service International crew that Jana worked with was gutting the condo of a sharp, 84-year-old former nurse and ceramic artist. “She sat in a corner of the first floor as we ripped up carpet, hardwood floors, tore down all the drywall, door frames, cabinets, everything,” said Jana. “She clutched one of her creations from her past-a ceramic carnival horse-to her chest as she watched her house become a shell of what it was a week before. Looking through the framing of what was her living room, she peered up at me. ‘Thank you,’ she said. ‘Thank you for being here.’ I got the sense that even though the dozen or so people invading her home were tearing it apart, she was comforted just to be around people who cared.” Jana was able to work with the organization for a day, but there are many selfless

individuals toiling day and night, relentlessly volunteering their time to restore the homes and lives of those affected by this disaster. The staff at WellWed Magazine was overjoyed to be able to send one of their people to aid in the efforts, but there is still a long road ahead for the victims. From now until June 15, 10 percent of the sales of any magazine purchased on our website will be donated to helping the victims of the Nashville flood disaster. In addition, many staff members at the magazine have pledged to match the donation with their own personal donation to the cause.
