Introduction This lab help to learn hand on skills in the basic setup of Cisco switches. Learning to setup switch configuration, configure remote access, verifying the switch status and operation along with configuring switch interfaces. Procedure Using the privilege and global configuration modes to configure the switch. First setup the hostname, create passwords and used commands to encrypt the passwords setup. Then use the command show running-config to see if the passwords were setup correctly. Then learned to save the running configuration to the start-up configuration so the switch remembers the configuration if the switch restarted or loss power. Then configured remote access to the switch by first setting up the IP Address, VTY password and cryptographic keys to use the SSH protocol. Which then setup a user with a local username and password to enable login remotely to the SSH protocol that I setup. Created a banner to display when login into the switch. Lastly use the ping command and traceroute commands to verify the switch is carrying out its basic operating functions.
