FROM VICE PRESIDENT SYLVIA H.
Greetings from the V.P. Hi everyone well the end of the year is almost here. Can you believe it. Soon Santa the elves, reindeer and holiday cheer will be among us. To all the club members and staff thank you for helping me have a great year. I hope that I’ve done the same for some of you. too. Remember the club will be having the Christmas brunch on Christmas day. I hope to lots of people there. Happy Holidays to everyone.

A FIRST FOR PAULA B.
Recently I attended my first Halloween Party at the Ansonia armory with the Valley Social Club. We had a really great lunch. We had chili, salad sandwiches and cookies. The supervisor of the club Phyllis was the DJ and there was lot of people dancing. After lunch and dancing, we had a costume contest, and we raffled some holiday decorations that myself and other club members made at the club. I’m so happy I went and I can’t wait for next year.

MASTERS TABLE SETS THE TABLE WITH MR. AND MRS. CLAUS
This month sets the table for Mr. and Mrs. Claus, plus one elf! On Sunday, December 8, 2013, Masters Table will host a dinner for you, your family and friends to enjoy a free dinner that celebrates the holiday in grand style. Please come and enjoy some time with us from 4:00-5:30pm. This is a Community Dinner that is located at 56 South Cliff Street in Ansonia, CT. Donations graciously accepted to defray the cost of our monthly dinners. For more information please call 203-732-7792 or email [email protected]. The Social Club does not provide rides for this event.

MANY OF THE THINGS I LIKE
I like playing and winning bingo every Tuesdays. I also like playing WEE bowling with the other members. I have been coming to the club since February 2013. I have made many friends. I have played in many pool tournaments while here. I like pool so much that I bought my own stick. Recently I went to the clubs in New Haven and Milford for their Halloween parties. I had a ball dressing up as a clown. When I’m not at the club I’m at “My Sisters Place” store working as a volunteer. I measure pants and look over video’s for sale. I really liked the Halloween dinner and all the yummy food and desert and talking to my new friends at my first Thanksgiving dinner with the club. Danny C.

TASTY CHRISTMAS !
We’re dreaming of a tasty Christmas ! It is cookie time again this year. On Wednesday, December 11th we will be gathering from 11to 1pm to show off your cookie baking skills. Everyone is encouraged to come and bring their best/most original cookies. There will be judging to reward the best cookie of the year. So warm up those ovens and let the baking begin. The more people who join the more fun we’ll have. Lets make this a fun and tasty way to get together with friends this holiday season. See you soon. Julie P.

DON’T FORGET TO USE THE WARM LINE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!
Hello and thank you for using the Community Warm Line this past year. It was our pleasure to serve you. We had a great year with almost 2100 calls. We really appreciate hearing from you. Do you know we even receive nightly callers from all parts of Connecticut and because of the internet we have had calls as far away as Ohio. We would like to thank 211 and Direct Care Staff for telling your new intakes about us. We are here to listen and lend an ear to those who really don’t want to call a crisis line. We try our best to be supportive and give good information if you need to find a service we ourselves do not use. I am glad for the internet because people can find us who normally would not call because we are out of their area or not a local call and to the use of cell phones which give freedom for our warm line regulars to give us a ring. So on behalf of our three other operators and myself, thank you for trying us and letting us help you this past year. Remember to use us this holiday season! By Julianne M.

The following members were recognized for their participation: Julianne M. Brenda T. Kent O. Sophie M. John L. Tanya N. Gayle A. Robert S. Susan L. Donna K. Jacques M. and Phyllis K. Everyone enjoyed a nice brunch and received a 2014 date book and KTP embossed pen. Congratulations to all members and staff of the VSC for their good legislative work and we surely will be doing it again next year!

MANY THANKS TO SO MANY! Phyllis Kaplan, Social Club Coordinator
Thank you all who have supported the Social Club all year! It starts with the staff who come and play pool or show the club to new members. Then the staff who volunteer to do dinners, clean up, chaperone, serve food during the parties or just to listen or teach a group. Then it’s our wonderful corporators, who are the silent ones like Kathy Ramia and Tony St. Angelo. They are like angels watching over us and sending raffle gifts and turkeys for events. The donors, who have made it possible to purchase lunches and items for our members when they do not have necessary things like a hot lunch, hygiene items, and memberships. The Wally Fund which assists our club to go to the Annual Retreat or the Butterfly Factory in the past. The staff who collected and started the Connie Keefe fund, so members can attend the center’s Annual Meeting. Thanks to the Janet Gan’s Fund our members have enjoyed the joy of arts and crafts. This year two members showed their art at the Ansonia Harvest Festival and they actually sold 5 pieces of their work collectively. We had to get a new billiard table after 20 years. Out of the blue a member’s relative working at Sikorsky’s raised funds to help us maintain the table and buy items for it over the next year. We also want to acknowledge “The Master’s Table” which was started to help mostly our members, to have a wonderful meal once a month on the weekend at the Christ Church. We also had many members step up and help shape the club by creating their own groups like Bead Group, Crocheting, raising money for the cancer walk and showing their survivor spirit with the help of some other members. Julianne M. who still is our club president and driver. She puts her heart and soul into everything she does. She is a Warm Line Worker, Kitchen Helper, organizer. Sylvia H. who stepped into a vacant Vice President Job, along with Elaine M. who is now our club Secretary. Last but not least thanks to Mike and Jacques for all they do every day! I look forward to another great year with you all!

BEADING 101 The social clubs beading has been a big hit at the club. It started with just a few of us ladies but now we can get up to six people. We have made some really intricate and beautiful designs. I’m sure that many of them will end up under more than a few Christmas trees as presents. I love that people enjoy coming and making bracelets and necklaces. It really means a lot to me that my friends and I can get together at the club and have fun. Here at a time. Beading class is on Wednesdays from 11-12pm at the social club. By Paula B.
