#he head of school$department is primarily responsible for providing academic, strategic and administrative
leadership to the school$department. %t is also the role of the head of school$department to engage with
faculty and university initiatives and with e"ternal organisations.
%t is noted that the head of school$department will also continue with their teaching and$or research as
agreed between the dean and the head of school$department. #his will be reviewed in the normal way
through the engagement profile.

)' *eadership and strate$ic direction
• develop and encourage a shared vision for the future directions, goals and priorities of the
school$department, which is aligned to the broader mission and goals of the university'
• ta(e a leadership role in developing the school$department)s strategic and operational
planning and manage the school$department so as to achieve its strategic direction and goals'
• maintain and enhance the academic standing of the school$department'
• implement *uality assurance and improvement procedures with the goal of enhancing all
aspects of the school$department)s activities'
• foster the development of outstanding academic programmes, research and research training
in the school$department'
• participate in the greater Monash community' and
• monitor and evaluate the school$department)s teaching, research and community engagement
activities in relation to comparable schools$departments both within and outside the !niversity.
