Ê *+ Ê Ê , owns and operates a state-of-the art Polystyrene facility, with an installed capacity of 2,72,000 TPA located at Nagothane in Raigad District, about 100 Kms south-east of Mumbai city. The facility also includes a world class colouring and compounding facility with an installed capacity of 25000 TPA. The Plant is based on technology from the erstwhile Huntsman Chemical Corporation (Now NOVA Chemicals) USA with basic engineering by ABB Lummus Crest, USA.

SPL is the leader in Polystyrene business in the Indian market place with a share of more than 50%. SPL is also the largest exporter of PS from India, exporting to over 80 countries around the globe. Currently SPL's exports are over 100,000 Tons/Year. The Product range covers the entire spectrum of Polystyrene. GPPS range covers MFI of 1.6 to 20, HIPS covering both extrusion and moulding grades, ESCR, High Gloss and super High Impact grades.

The specialty range includes UL listed Ignition Retardant HIPS (both V0 and V2 rating), Mineral Filled HIPS, Micro floppy diskette grade, UV stabilised PS, Toughened PS and custom coloured PS, filled PP for automotive/appliance industry application, high quality white and gray colour masterbatches for injection molding as well as film, sheet extrusion applications.

To hasten the development of new applications and use of these materials Product Application Centre has been established, where joint programmes with customers are initiated.

SPL's reputation as a reliable supplier is due to its internationally acclaimed safety record in plant operation and total compliance with global and local standards on EHS. For these SPL has been awarded with 5 star rating from British Safety Council.

‘‘Ê‘Ê ÊÊ A strong online customer feed back system on quality of products and services is the essence of SPL's quest for continuous improvement. To strengthen the competitive position further, the company is keenly pursuing it's minor port project in district Raigad, Maharashtra to handle the import of it's raw materials. The Company entered the ¢

¢ business when it took over management control of Shin Ho Petrochemical (India) Ltd. based near Chennai (Southern India). The name of this Company was changed to SPL Polymers Limited and subsequently amalgamated with Supreme Petrochem Ltd w.e.f. July 1, 2007. The installed capacity of this plant has been increased in June 2010 to 27,700 TPA from 6000 TPA.

The ¢

with a capacity of 5000 TPA commenced production in August 2009. These Boards used for insulation purposes are marketed under the trade name INSUBOARD®. Plants for Cup Grade EPS (20,400 TPA) and Standard EPS (20,000 TPA) are being set up at the plant site at Nagothane, Maharashtra.

Polystyrene (PS) is a common man¶s plastics ...! It is a versatile thermoplastics resin and available in a wide range of formulations from General Purpose / Crystal PS which is transparent to Impact PS which is opaque / translucent in nature. Various Grades of GPPS and HIPS are available and designed to be processed easily by different processing operations like, injection molding, extrusion & thermoforming, blow molding, foam sheet / board extrusion and bi-axially oriented sheet / film extrusion. Versatile properties and ease of processing make polystyrene an extremely attractive material, capable of competing quite favourably with expensive resins in a number of demanding applications.

GPPS is a transparent, amorphous polymer, which exhibits high stiffness, good dimensional stability and electrical insulation properties etc. The commercial grades of crystal PS offer a wide range in melt flow index from 2 gm/10 min (ASTM D1238; 2000C/5kg) to as high as 30 gm/10 min with high-heat, highmolecular-weight versions.

The sparkling clarity of GPPS make it suitable for an extensive range of applications including molded food and non-food packaging, medical ware, household products, cassettes and CD jewel box, refrigerator inner parts and imitation jewelry, stationery, cutlery, hangers etc.

Commercial grades of HIPS are produced with addition of Polybutadiene rubber (PBR) for impact modification. The numbers of impact grades are available and these are generally classified as, medium impact PS (notched Izod values between 40 and 80 J/m), high impact PS (notched Izod values between 80 to 160 J/m) or super high impact PS (notched Izod value more than 160 J/m) The mechanical properties of impact PS significantly depend on the rubber type, content and rubber morphology. Impact PS ranges from translucent to opaque in its natural color. HIPS grades are widely used for food and non-food packaging, medical and house-ware products, TV cabinets, business machine and appliance parts, stationery, hangers etc.

Speciality Polystyrene is a value added product specifically designed for Appliance industry, XPS (extruded expanded foamed PS) insulation boards, OPS (Oriented PS) sheet etc. Properties of normal grades of GPPS and HIPS are enhanced by use of special raw material, additives with state-of-the-art production techniques. Enhanced properties include, high molecular weight, super high impact strength, high heat resistance, high gloss and Environmental Stress Cracking Resistance (ESCR) etc.

Properties of polystyrene resin (GPPS / HIPS) are modified in compounding equipment with addition of additives to offer tailor made solutions for intended applications. Following properties of GPPS / HIPS resins can be modified by compounding operation: r r r r r r r r

Colour Flammability Light Stability Mechanical Properties like Tensile Strength & Modulus, Impact etc. Thermal properties like heat resistance Electrical properties like glow wire temperature, resistivity etc. Optical properties like haze, transparency etc. Surface properties like COF, scratch resistance & gloss etc.

One of the above or more properties can also be modified at the same time.
