PJ.SV.05.1 Email Activity: Commentary on SV.04.1: Creating a Web Banner
I enjoyed this task ,and enjoyed learning Aviary so I decided to produce two banners one of which I will comment on in depth here. The main idea for the banner was to try and incorporate graphics, images and text that matched the colours of the ³online college logo ´. I also wanted to try to produce a banner that had the right style and feel of a multimedia course. I attempted to manipulate my graphics so that they had a retro electronic vibe similar to the images below.
During this task the online college logo had to be incorporated into the design , so I tried experimenting with placing it on the left or to the right of the banner, I was not happy with either, so I decided to place it centrally and this seemed to work well, as it had a better balance. This gave me the idea of placing images relating to ³sound´ on the left of the college logo, and images relating to ³vision´ on the right. This would make the images naturally read from left to right therefore naturally reflecting the text of the ³Sound & Vision´ module. Another issue that affected the task was the colour of the online college logo. The white background of the logo meant either creating a banner with a white background, so that the logo blended in, or I would have to draw around and cut the graphics from theonline college logo so that it could be placed onto a new background , without the white square of background appearing. Cutting out the onli ne college logo was too difficult due to the curves and shapes incorporated in the image, so I decided to create a banner with a white background I spent a lot of time playing with the images I wanted to incorporate into the banner. I figured out how to resize the images by reducing them down to around 110 pixels high. I knew that they would then fit the 139 high canvas without overlapping . I had a few problems using Aviary, the system kept locking up, and I found that I had to click commands three or four times to make them work. Because of this I ended up using Paint Shop Pro to manipulate the photos.
