Plastering
Objective
To define the standard procedure and arrangements for surface Plastering

Scope
This methodology covers the Plastering activity including ordinary internal plaster for walls and ceiling and its arrangement to be made at project site.

Procedure
 Samples for cement, Fine aggregate (clean sand with sharp edges, angular, free from alkali, silt or organic matter) and expanded metal will be submitted to Engineer & be approved prior to start of work. Mock ups of proposed plasters will be placed at site for approval of workmanship It will be ensured that experienced Plasterers/Masons are deployed for the activity, having good knowledge of the specifications & requirements. Sand will be sieved in case some unwanted materials are observed. Mortar will be mixed mechanically to achieve uniform mixing in accordance with the Project Specifications Expanded mesh of 12” width will be used where concrete meets the brickwork and other plaster accessories shall be used as per design and specifications of the project. Mortar will be mixed in specified ratio that much quantity, which could be used within 60 minutes after water has been first mixed. Limited amount of water will be ensured to be used in mortar. Before plastering, the structure will be made clear of dust, oily matter, and any extra protrusions; chipping of the glazed surfaces etc. Block/ Unit masonry must have already been properly raked to receive the plaster in good bondage. Surface will be washed with clean water & will be kept damped for at least 2 Hrs before plastering. Surface to be rendered will first receive a straightening coat (0.39” to 0.51”) of cement mortar, thrown on and smoothed with a wooden float. After the initial set has taken place the surface will be scratched thoroughly to form a key for the final coat of the specified thickness i.e., (.24” to .39”).

In any continuous face of the wall the finishing coat will be applied continuously so that breaks due to cessation of wo Extreme hot weather (above 32 degree % relative humidity above 50%) & cold weather (below 4 degree) will be avoided. Safe Scaffolding will be provided at all levels & heights for the workers. Scaffolding will be checked by the Engineer & approval will be granted by Engineer. In case of plaster to concrete surfaces, proper chipping will be done and bonding agent plus cement slurry will be used before plastering Proper inspection request will be raised to the Engineer for inspection along with our QC Engineer, to ensure that no hidden work like electrical conduits, plumbing pipes/ insulation, door window frames or any other embedment are left incomplete/ unchecked/ un repaired before the application of plaster. Level marks/ spacers will be established making the whole piece of wall in complete plumb and alignment taking care of average plaster thickness to be in control. Level spacers will be made out of same ratio mortar and cure properly. Control joints will be erected by striking “V” Impressions Plaster will be finished using wooden float/trowel leaving no waves, wraps, bad levels or holes/ pits. Plaster will be applied with sufficient pressure to form bond with surface being plastered Proper curing will be done by spraying water for at least 8 days. Any observation by the Engineer regarding some quality problems will be addressed quickly and remedial/ corrective action will be taken as per the instructions of the Engineer.
