PMP Exam Prerequisites When it comes to PMP exam prerequisites, make sure that you are prepared. By being prepared, you will ensure a smooth process to attaining your PMP credentials. Once you have the appropriate PMP exam prerequisites you can apply to sit for the exam. Be honest when filling out the application as there is a chance you could be audited. Though audits are not common, they do happen and will extend the process unnecessarily. Bottom line, by following through with the following steps will ensure that you are well prepared for your PMP certification experience. Education Prerequisites The education prerequisites for the PMP are fairly straightforward and consist of two paths dependent. First, if you have a Bachelor degree or a global equivalent you will be required to have at least 3 years of project management experience to sit for the exam. However, if you have your high school diploma, GED or an associate degree you will need at least 5 years of professional experience in project management. Professional Experience Prerequisites Your professional experience is possibly the more complicated aspect of gaining your PMP exam prerequisites out of the way. In order to sit for the PMP certification exam you must meet certain thresholds based on experience in the field, again based on your education level. If you do have your Bachelor degree (or global equivalent) you are required to have 4,500 hours of project management related experience. Along with the 4,500 hours, you must have at least 36 months of that experience in the last six years. If you fall into the other category and do not have your Bachelor degree then the hour requirements are higher. You must have 7,500 of direct work in project management with at least 60 months in the last eight years. PMP Training Hours When it comes to PMP training hours, regardless of your education level, you must have 35 contact hours. These hours do not have a time frame associated with them and can have occurred at any point prior to applying. Also, these hours must be specific to project quality, scope, time, cost, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement or integration management. Apply for the PMP Certification Exam Now that you have all of your experience and education outlines, you are ready submitting your application. Please see our instructions for the PMP application process for a more detailed look at the application.
