UNIT 1: We the People  Lesson Four  Four  Professions and Trades

To earn their living, people have to work. The occupations requiring a special training and learning are called professions. The persons of different professions are all brainworkers. The The medi medical cal prof profes essio sion, n, for for exam exampl ple, e, incl includ udes es phys physici ician ans, s, surg surgeo eons ns,, gene genera rall  practitioners, oculists, dentists, therapists, pharmaceutical chemists, nurses etc. The  profession of law comprises lawyers, prosecutors, judges and notaries. Economists are specialists in economic problems, for instance, accountants keep records. Journalists write articles in newspapers. The teaching profession includes schoolmasters, teachers, lecturers,  professors. The engineering profession profess ion has many branches civil, mechanical, electrical, etc. !ffice workers and secretaries are employed by companies, banks or education institutions. The occupations, which require skilled work with the hands, are called trades. The  building of a house means employing e mploying bricklayers, carpenters, joiners, j oiners, plumbers, electricians,  painters, gla"iers, locksmiths. #actories employ welders, weavers, and blacksmiths. $griculture needs farmers. %eople engaged in trade are tradesmen, merchants and shop assistants.
