Part 2: Teaching through
effective communication
RIME Framework emphasizes effective communication and
decision-making skills through the performance of four essen-
tial roles in clinical practice • Reporter • Interpreter • Manag-
er • Educator. • Attentive listening and accurate reporting are
essential to medical students’ beginning professional develop-
ment.
Communications Exercises • The Interview—Narrating some-
one else’s story • Debrief with the House
Part 3: Teaching through effective inquiry
Inquiry-based teaching strategies should use a systematic
approach for formulating effective questions for teaching and
be aimed at promoting a specific purpose and type of think-
ing, and help students develop their R-I-M-E skills, behaviors
and attitudes • Categories of Questions: Laying foundation
(establishing knowledge base) • Deep Dive (promoting higher
order thinking)
