Reflection “Why am I in college” project Abigail Rogne

Working on the “Why am I in college?” project was an excellent way for me to really take time and think. I thought long and hard about why I came to college, and at first the answer was simple- to get away from home. I had a lot of trouble growing up in a tiny town called white hall, Arkansas, and could not wait to get away. I was very afraid of college, and I didn’t want to leave my dad, but the idea of leaving that town was enough for me to start looking forward to college. I also learned more about my major while I was writing my paper. I looked in more detail at which classes I will be taking over the next few semesters and I’ve gotten pretty excited! I can’t wait to start taking classes that are relevant to my major, early childhood education, and for my art minor. My plan is to become an art teacher for elementary grades. I am very excited to start learning more about how to teach children and to actually start doing it. This project reminded me a lot of one I did last semester in comp1. We had to extensively research our intended majors and mine was nursing at the time. The more I learned about it, the less I liked it, and my paper ended up being split into two majors. What I mainly learned from both of these assignments is that you can’t expect for your first choice to always be the right one for you. You need to know about what you are getting yourself into before you decide on a career path that might not be the right one for you. I enjoyed doing this assignment overall.
