Rehabilitation of Leaking Manholes The manholes located on ground profiles which are having water table on the surface, the potential to be leaked from the joints and the bed is high. This has become a major issue when the manholes are lying along the sea shore. To rehabilitate such a deep manhole exceeding its depth more than six meters is a cumbersome job. One possible way of preventing leakages is increasing the impermeability around the manhole by reinforcing the soil around. For this purpose, specially designed grout can be used. The grout is pressured into the soil surround exceeding its depth by around one meter to bring a bulb formed at the base, it is kind of a secant piling method, but diffused into the soil structure in a dome shape surrounding an enclosure creating practically impermeable layer with lowered permeability around the soil structure. This kind of grout design incorporated many laboratory tests to realize the actual permeability coefficients and its applicability to the real ground conditions. Soil reinforcement reinforcement is a very efficient technology to improve underground structures with high permeable problems or water ingress into such deep manholes.
