The wood will crack up, as wood dries out quickly. If the area is cold, wood will dry slowly and fungus may grow on the furniture. Dry it as soon as water damage comes about. Don't delay, since water will seep through the wood which causes more damage. Get rid of white spots by applying a buffeting solution which was made of toothpaste and bicarbonate of soda; apply equal measures of both components in order to make a solution. Wet clean cotton in this solution and rub on the spotted area. And then, buff the area with another cloth. If this doesn't assist in dispatching the spots so go for a professional person. Black spots on piece of furniture point that water seeped through the finish into the wood and resulted in the growing of mold. Strip the finish and bleach the wood to wipe out the mold and so reapply finish. Furniture damaged by fire and having small-localized burns may be repaired by using polish to the area with a swab of cotton. Get rid of burnt pieces with penknife. Use clear polish to the area in small amounts to assure whether the polish is the same as the earlier one. Fill up cracks with wood sealant blended with fevicol. Allow it to dry. Take one hundred fifty grit sand-paper and softly scratch the surface of the wood. After this apply varnish on the furniture to make it look bright. If the furniture doesn't acquire any cleaner when you apply detergent, apply a solvent depending upon the type of finish. Apply turpentine oil, mineral spirits or denatured alcohol.

Latex enamel paint may be applied if you're going for repainting the furniture. Let the 1st coat dry then use the 2nd coat. Afterward, use water-proof gloss to seal off the paint.
