Events in -

France was rising as an Empire under Napoleon. The Holy Roman Empire dissolved. Europe in 1814 Napoleon surrendered.

Attendees: Austria, Denmark, Saxony, France, Prussia, Great Britain, etc. People: Clemens von Metternich of Austria – diplomat who planned the redrawing of European political boundaries What … is the congress all about? The congress was all about the renewing or reforming of the political situation in Europe. Parts of the reforms were: the redrawing of political boundaries which divide the countries, reinstatement of former dynasties overthrown in the Napoleonic Wars, create a unified German state, and distribute the territories won by France during the Napoleonic wars (spoils of war) When? 1814 – 1815. Where? Vienna, malamang. Why? France was then a growing power, and its surrender called for distribution of its territories. The Holy Roman Empire dissolved.

How? Diplomats from different countries met in Vienna to discuss issues the Congress sought to resolve.

Territories gained: Great Britain – Ceylon, Cape of Good Hope, Malta and Ionian Islands, Heligoland, Islands in the Americas Holland – Belgium Austria – Lombardy, Venetia, Tuscany Germany – 39 states Prussia – Pomerania, Saxony, Rhineland states Russia – Warsaw Sweden – Norway *Germany GAINED THE MOST as a result of the congress. And Germany became united under OTTO VON BISMARCK.
