Richard is 17 Year Old African American Male

Richard is 17 year old African American male. His birthday is February 27, 1995. Richard is one of three triplets and was born with cerebral palsy. He lives with his mother, step-father, and three brothers. He currently attends a school for special needs children and is functioning well at the twelth grade level and plans on going to college after he graduates high school. He was referred for music therapy by his occupational therapist who he works with on a daily basis at Richard’s school. Richard only has control over his left arm and hand. He uses a specialzed wheelchair at school but at home he uses his only working limb to get around by crawling and dragging himself on the floor. As demonstrated by the client, he often suffers from the onset of spacicity when sitting for long periods of time. The client does not reveal or disclose when he is uncomfortable or in pain. In order to gauge Richard’s comfort level he must be directly asked.
