Rocky Mountain National Park is a national park located in the northcentral region of the U.S state of Colorado. The National Park is open the whole year. The park is famous for his wild- and plantworld and for its breathtaking and majestic mountain views. There are many hiker trails and campsites. The park is located northwest of Boulder, Colorado, in the Rockies, and includes the Continental Divide and headwater of the Colorado River. The park is surrounded by Roosevelt National Forest on the north and east, Routt National Forest on the northwest, and Arapho National Forest on the southwest. The park contains 578 km of trails, 720 km of streams and 150 lakes. The highest point of the National Park is Longs Peak which rises to 4.346m. There were about 3,000,000 visitors in the year 2009. The nearest cities are Estes Park and Grand Lake.
Activities:
-Most visitors hike. The National Park contains a network of 576 km of trail and dozens of campsites. -Horse riding is allowed on many trails. -Rock climbing is popular. Long Peak, Hallet Peak and Lumpy Ridge are famous rock climbing areas. -In the winter when the trails are covered in snow, skiing and snowshoeing are very popular. (A Snowshoe is footwear for walking over the snow)
-You can go fishing at many lakes and streams at the park. -Camping is allowed at many campgrounds.
History
Evidence has shown that Native Americans have visited the area of the park for the last 10,000 years. The Ute Tribe visited the west side of the park especially around Grand Lake. The Arapaho Tribe visited and chased in the Estes Park region. The Rocky Mountain National Park was founded on the 26 January 1915 by the president Woodrow Wilson after the conservationist Enos Mills (born in 1870) has been talked about it.
