Romancing the Guitar
It has been quite a ride for husband and wife guitarists, Ruth and Richard Lenz, since they came together as Duo Lenz, professional classical guitar duo. Not only have they toured urope several times, they also released their first !D in "##$. %hey have premiered several new wor&s written for classical guitar duet, appearing in the Darwin International !lassical 'uitar (estival and in many of )erth*s most foremost concert series. Now Duo Lenz is e+panding their repertoire by including historic instruments into their performances. Late last year Ruth and Richard commissioned )erth Luthier, ,imon Rovis -ermann, to built them copies of two (rench guitars originating from the $.th !entury. (or this pro/ect both ,imon and Richard have done e+tensive research to create replicas of two arly Romantic 'uitars originally made by Ren0 Lac1te in )aris in $23.. Ren0 (ran4ois Lac1te 5$6278 $2779 was the most well8&nown (rench guitar builder of his time. Lac1te resided in )aris and his guitars were played by (.,or, D.:guado, N.!oste, (.!arulli and many other guitarists at the time. %hese guitars will be part of the duo;s future recitals and will, ne+t to their modern )aul ,heridan classical guitars, be featured for the first time in their <une recitals. (uture recitals and lecture demonstrations will also include the =ihuela de >ano and ?aroque 'uitar. Duo Lenz will start recording their second album in <uly this year, containing a selection from the e+tensive early romantic repertoire written for two guitars. ?esides including these early instruments in their recitals the duo also has some e+citing new wor&s on their programmes for their forthcoming recitals. %hey will be premiering two new wor&s for !lassical 'uitar Duet by !.@arlberg, ,weden and !.Reeves, :ustralia and have contacted Richard !harlton for a third composition.
