Get Involved How to help Trained volunteers are an integral part of the Ronald McDonald House program. Volunteers are needed on an ongoing basis every day of the week for various shifts. Volunteers register and check out families, answer telephones, give House tours and assist in the day-today operation of the House by helping where needed. Volunteers must have the ability to relate to children and adults. A primary quality is the ability to be a good, understanding listener as parents may need to share the burden of their child’s hospitalization. Good telephone and organizational skills are important. We have a great need for volunteers who speak Spanish. Volunteers must have their own transportation. Adult singles or couples are welcome. Volunteers are needed for arts & crafts, house decorating and those with special skills such as hair styling or massage therapy.

care. We rely on strategic alliances with organizations that have the knowledge and infrastructure to extend our reach. And most of all, we rely on you – our donors, volunteers, staff and friends.
The first Ronald McDonald House was opened in Philadelphia in 1974. The House was created from an idea brought up by Fran and Fred Hill; he was the tight end for the Eagles. Their 3-yearold daughter, Kim had leukemia, and as they camped out in the hospital chairs and rooms they noticed other families doing the same thing. So with the help of Jim Murray, the Eagle’s general manager and Dr. Audrey Evans, head of pediatric oncology unit at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the first House was created in 1974. Today there are 329 Ronald McDonald Houses in 33 countries.
