Local Sales/Use Tax
Changes

(Effective January 1, 2011)
Thurston County
Sales and use tax within the Thurston
County Public Transportation Benefit Area
(PTBA) will increase two-tenths of one percent
(.002). The tax will be used for transportation
purposes.

2010 General Election

On November 2, Washington residents cast their
vote in the 2010 General Election. Several initiatives
could potentially impact the taxability of your
business. At the time of this publication, the results of
the election were not known.

Undisclosed letter rulings
discontinued

Tax rulings for undisclosed businesses will no longer be
issued by the Department.
The new policy is in response to statewide budget cuts.
Undisclosed tax ruling requests we receive will not be
processed. Instead, we will contact you and request that you
disclose the business.
If you disclose the business in your request, you can expect a
response within 10 business days, in most cases.

dor.wa.gov/emailservice, enter your name and email
address, then click join beside the topics you wish to receive

Update your business information

As a part of our ongoing effort to deliver information and
services efficiently, effectively, and economically, we need
your help.
Please go to dor.wa.gov and use our My account website
for a real time update of your business information. If
you have an online account, enter your logon ID and
password, then click Manage business account on the
left menu bar. If you don’t have an online account, click
Register now to create one. You’ll need your PAC code
found near the address label of your tax return.
You can also update your information by clicking
Contact us in the menu bar at the top of the website,
then Email, then Update under the My Account
heading.

Motor Vehicle Sales, Leases, and Rentals
The sale, lease, or rental of a motor vehicle,
licensed for on-road use, is subject to a tax
of three-tenths of one percent (.003) of the
selling price.
This tax is in addition to the state and local sales
tax. It is not due if the rental car tax applies.
