“One Step” Installation
What is the “One Step” installation?
The “One Step” installation approach combines the
automated tools ‘eCATT’ and ‘BC-Sets’ to speed up the
installation process.
It reduces the necessary installation activities to install
one or more building blocks to a minimum of single
installation steps.
In the past: You had to enter specific values several
times DURING the installation process; this was partly
very time-consuming because it interrupted the smooth
installation flow.
Now: All necessary data entries can be done BEFORE
you start the automated “One Step” installation.
The “One Step” installation runs automatically (with few
interruptions only) and makes use of the data you
entered before. After completion you can check the
activation log.

with personalized values.
The “One Step” installation approach is a step
forward to an extremely fast and comfortable way
for setting up a solution based on SAP Best Practices.

Package or selected scenarios within a very short time.
The SAP Best Practices Installation Assistant is an SAP ECC
based tool that guides you step-by-step through the
installation process directly in the system.
SAP Best Practices Personalization Assistant
The SAP Best Practices standard installation takes place
using default values and sample master data.

values, SAP Best Practices offers the possibility to easily
adapt selected values to your needs.
The current version of the SAP Best Practices Baseline
Package allows you to personalize central organizational
data.
The SAP Best Practices Personalization Assistant is an MS
Excel based tool that guides you through the
personalization activities. The subsequent installation of the
personalized solution is performed using the SAP Best
Practices Installation Assistant.

Building Block Principle
An SAP Best Practices package is not a monolithic
block but structured in Building Blocks.

Scenarios
Building Blocks…
are the technical methodology for the
SAP Best Practices development and
delivery
provide SAP Best Practices users with
small, flexible, and transparent pieces
of functionality (Building Blocks), for
example a specific scenario that can be
implemented like an add-on to an
existing solution
foster inter-operability and reusability
by providing the necessary guidelines
and tools to enable content developers
to create Building Blocks that follow a
common structure
© SAP AG 2005, TW 19
Definition of Building Blocks - Content
Building Blocks are reusable units covering
1. Business content (solutions, scenarios, processes or combinations)
2. Technical procedures (connectivity, technical setup of a system)
3. Common standards (organizational structures, basic logistics)
Criteria:
What is required for a best practice
What can be reused (reduction of redundant development effort)
No static criteria for content covered by Building Blocks

SAP Best Practices Building Block Principle
To set up an SAP Best Practices scenario, you have to
install a number of building blocks in a predefined
sequence.
This sequence is documented in the
SAP Best Practices “Quick Guide”.
