OLAP Query Caching
The query results and navigation statuses calculated by the OLAP processor are stored as of release 3.0B as a data cluster in the crosstransactional application buffer in the application server instance (crosstransactional cache). This enables the OLAP processor to access data stored in the cache for queries that are similar, thus improving query performance and reducing the load on the database instance. This cross-transactional cache is not the same as the local OLAP processor cache, which was available before 3.0B and which saves query results in a session. Another new option enables you to limit the maximum memory provided by your system not only for the local cache but also for the cross-transactional cache.
Constant Selection
In the Query Designer, you select the data you want to show during the run time for the report. You can use navigation and filtering to make further changes to the selection during runtime (the selection is restricted further). The new version of the Query Designer allows you to select constants. This means that navigation or filtering has no effect on the selection during runtime. Thus, you can easily select reference sizes that remain unchanged during runtime. The constant selection is very helpful, for example, in market share calculations. In a product list (product in drilldown), you do not want to see the absolute sales revenue, but rather the sales revenue in relation to a specific product group. (In 2.0 you could only relate the value to the (total) results cell or the query result.)
Market Share with Constant Selection of Characteristic Values (I)
It is possible to define parts of the selections (individual characteristics and their filter values) as constant. Only the InfoObject in this selection remains constant during navigation and filtering. In the Selection Editor, you can select an InfoObject as a constant in the context menu.
