distorted display, multiple scrambled screens, cannot see bios.

Hi, I have my hp laptop in trouble. I had windows vista and laptop started proper earlier but I had a loud beep every time my laptop start and then my system hang. After some time I can work earlier. But now the laptop has gone completely dumb. It shows me the screen with six partitioned displays over the monitor all in flickering patterns like the below image: » Recent Discussions As can see below there are multiple small vista screens here. Vista also detects this reduction in screen size and adjusted the screen size to small screens. I can figure out some buttons and shut down: Please help. Does this mean my video card is gone? What can be the worst that might have happened to this machine? please help.

bios.

Bump, my Evesham laptop also has this problem! I am running Vista but my screen doesn't flicker but it sometimes had thick yellow lines running down the screen for a week before this happened and now it sometimes has thick yellow lines running down six tiny screens! I have tried taking a screenshot on my laptop but I only get six little screenshots of what looks like a perfectly normal desktop, I don't know if that is significant but I thought I would mention it anyway! Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it please? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hmm..... I wonder if you also have the Nvidia Graphics card. If so, you are also one of the people who are into this trouble ( as all of us here) So you will have following approaches...... 1.The hair dryer approach..... -Open the motherboard -Cover the rest of board except graphics chip -Hair dry heat the chip legs -Sell it to some noob ASAP 2.The better one..... -Get it corrected through a process called BGA remounting (Ball Grid Array Remounting) 3.Grab a new motherboard.... 4.Sell it as spoilt or disassemble it and sell it..... 5.Throw it in a dustbin and grab a new one (better take care of the configurations next time and do you homework before purchase ;) )...... BEST OF LUCK..... __________________

It could be a cold solder joint,,,I mean after all it is a mass produced Dell that means that the softw are/hardw are combo is more or less running on how many other Dell boxes ??? plus you are not reporting any w indoze errors,,so me thinks hardw are/loose connection./heat etc,,maybe..

Try to dump the drivers altogether and start w indow s using the standard vga driver that w indow s w ill give it. It w ill look just like safe mode but w ill load the full compliment of the rest of the drivers. Also try to disable any additional codecs. this w ill help determine if it is video drivers. If it still happens use msconfig and turn off all start up programs and see w hat happens. If it still happens press F8 and disable half of the system drivers and then the other half to try to isolate w hat is causing this.

W hen the guy changed my motherboard he found dust blocking the air flow so the GPU w asn't properly cooled. He told me that it that may have been the w hole problem but still changed my mobo just in case. I try to keep it clean but I w as to much of a cow ard to open it up and REALLY cleaning it. So my suggestion is to open it up and make sure everything is clean and nice so the airflow and cooling w ork perfectly. In fact the other day I felt my left hand a bit too w arm (the keyboard w as hotter than usual) I opened it, and there w as a small patch of dust blocking the vent. seriously small. But removing it made the W ORLD of difference. Hope this helps since it could be a overheating issue

I tired everything bios default setting clean my fan rivatuner latest and older nvidia drivers. my standard sektop temp w as 54°. I opened the damn thing up im not gonna send in a card back to the producer just to get it clean. guess w hat my desktop now runs at 38-39°. I say "W hat a change" . Most important thing no more nvlddmkm errors. I bet the most of the people have this error just because of the blacked airflow . In my case i had like a w hole layer of dust and dirt and w hatever blocking the airflow system. I had been using the card for over half a year w ithout even thinking about it. In my oppinion the airflow system is flaw ed. Reason is because if people buy a card they w ill most likely use it for more than half a year. Big problem though open your card to clean it = w arranty void. In this case nvidia w ould have to come up w ith some sort of dirt filter that blocks the dirt go past the shafts. Maybe something like a pull out draw you take out w ithout having to screw your card appart. And having to be afraid to kill the card completly in the process.

And if an external monitor is connected to laptop it displays correctly until ubuntu grub menu but soon monitor goes blank. So they offered to do something w ith graphics chip (probably heating it as their expert said) if it's faulty. It may make it w orking or may not. maybe for a few days or a few w eeks or more. nothing is guaranteed. I've decided to do it as the last resort. any idea?

PC Wizard My Hp dv2700 laptop display got split into 6 mini screens.

One fine day I decided to run Hp Update utility just to keep my laptop up-to-date. The software prompted me to update the bios with new version F.2E Since then my laptop display got split into 6 mini screens. Everything else works fine except the display area which shows up split right from power on, and even bios setup displays in this split screens, which implies its not a OS problem. Which is also confirmed from the fact that the problem appears even when I removed the hard drive from the laptop.

Hi Mart, You can find out your video card driver by clicking on start, then right clicking on computer. choose properties, and from this window, choose device manager. you want to expand the display adapter node. You can update the driver direct from the hp website, but if its an nvidia or ati adapter, there may be a more recent driver on their website. If updating the driver doesn't work, you may wish to do a system restore to before the flight sim was installed. You can do this by typing system restore into the start menu search. Try doing a Selective Startup and see if you still have this issue http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/121ff6a6-181e-4e8f-83bbc7b1f3c6d71a1033.mspx Reply | Reply with quote | Report abuse

I would say that the most likely cause is a graphics card setting. Do you have any special software installed for changing your graphics card software? Are you able to tell us what sort of graphics card you have, or would you know where to update the driver from? I managed to update the driver but to no avail but what I did do was connect another monitor up to the lap top and we then had a normal screen on the other monitor.Would this suggest a hardware failure of the laptops screen ? Mart. Reply | Reply with quote | Report abuse

Brian_Jones replied on June 4, 2009 In reply to martauto post on June 4, 2009 No, if you had a hardware failure it wouldn't work. Have you tried a system restore to before the flight sim was installed?
