Several countries use fines as a way to close cases such as petit theft, etc. instead of going to trial and then receiving a possible jail sentence. When doing so, many use day fines. This means that they assign a specific number of "units" to each type of crime, and depending on your income, your "unit" values will differ. Do you think this type of system would be beneficial in the United States?
