Snow removaI tips
Before it snows, you and your snow removal contractor should walk the parking lot and perimeter and identify
obstacles that might become hidden when snow is on the ground. Look for things such as parking stops, speed
bumps, curbs, sidewalk edges, shrubs, water drains, fire hydrants, fences, and pipes protruding from the ground.
Mark all obstructions with brightly colored marking sticks so they will be easily identified during plowing operations.
Ìdentify areas where all snow is to be piled. Make sure snow pile areas are away from high traffic and guest
walking areas. Also, position the snow piles so the melt flow does not cross a high traffic area. With melting comes
freezing, which creates a slip and fall hazard.
Be sure to clear snow from all sidewalks and in front of buildings and overhead doors before you start plowing, to
avoid forming obstructive snow banks in these areas.
Keep water drains and catch basins clear at all times.
Do not block the visibility of vehicles entering or leaving the parking lot area by piling snow too close to the road.
Inspect gutters for proper drainage to avoid ice damns and large icecycles from forming. If large icecycles forms
on the roof, make sure you cordin off the area below from cars andof moving cars and people in the lot if plowing takes place during store open hours.
Always secure proof of liability insurance (certificate of insurance) from the snow removal contractor before you allow
any plowing in your parking lot area.

Other Things to do:
Keep floors as dry as possible. Utilize wet floor cones at entrance when snow being tracked in.
Extra Rugs: Use exra rugs as needed and cover any sliperly tile at front entrance.
