Stages of Mesothelioma
Staging systems are used by doctors to diagnose the development of cancer within a patient. Depending on the stage and type of cancer, different treatment options are available, such as surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy. When diagnosing Mesothelioma, an asbestos related cancer, doctors use a staging system called the TNM system.

This information regarding the stages of mesothelioma and mesothelioma symptoms is provided for reference and educational purposes only.

TNM Staging System

The TNM staging system was created by the International Mesothelioma Interest Group. TNM stands for the three different parts of Mesothelioma lawyer. These parts are:

(T)umor: the size and location of the tumor. (N)odes: have the lymph nodes have been affected. (M)etastasized: have the tumors have metastasized (spread) to other body parts).

Tumor Classification and Description

T1a - The tumor is limited to the internal lung and/or the diaphragm. T1b - The tumor has involved the internal lung and the diaphragm. T2 - The tumor now involves the entirety of the lung and diaphragm, but has not spread outside. T3 - The tumor has increased in size, but is could potentially be removed by surgery. It has spread to all types of lung tissue. T4 - The tumor has grown beyond the point of being surgically removable. Treatment options are now limited to nonsurgical means. Nodes

Node Classification and Description NX Lymph nodes cannot yet be assessed. N0 Tumor has not spread to the lymph nodes. N1 Tumor has begun to spread to the lymph nodes. N2 Moderate spread to lymph nodes. N3 Lymph nodes are fully affected.

Metastasis

Metastasis Classification and Description MX - Spreading cannot yet be assessed. M0 - The tumor has not spread to other parts of the body. M1 - The tumor has spread into other parts of the body.

Mesothelioma Final Stages

Mesothelioma and other Asbestos attorneys related diseases and cancers are rarely detected until its later stages. This is because symptoms can take decades to arise after the initial exposure to asbestos. New means of detection are under constant research in order to sooner diagnose the disease. Like all cancers, early detection is key for affective treatment. The sooner treatment begins, the higher the likelihood of successful treatment.
