Specialization course for Psychotherapy
The presentation of basic knowledge about psychodynamic psychotherapy.

The purpose of the course is to present basic knowledge about
psychodynamic therapy understood as a specific way of thinking about
the patient (as defined by Glen Gabbard). During the course main
ideas and conceptions, phenomena, purposes, applications and
therapeutic methods will be presented. Main goal of the course will be
to discuss those characteristics from practitioner`s point of view. For
that reason numerous case studies and clinical material will be
presented and analysed.
1. What is psychodynamic therapy? Introduction
2. What are the principal psychodynamic conceptions?
3. Who can benefit from psychodynamic therapy? Essentials of
psychodynamic diagnosis.
4. What is special about the therapist – patient relationship in
psychodynamic therapy?
5. What are the specific phenomena? Transference,
countertransference, projective identification, resistance.
6. How does the psychodynamic therapist work? Setting, rules
and boundaries, therapeutic interventions, dream analysis etc.
7. What cures in psychodynamic therapy? Is this method
effective? The curative factors, effectiveness` research.
Course summary.
The course will deepen students` knowledge about conceptual
foundations and clinical methods of psychodynamic therapy. After the
course students will be able to understand psychodynamic therapeutic
process and to use psychodynamic ideas to interpret patient`s
mechanisms.
1) 3 short tests – 2 tests during the course checking the familiarity with
obligatory literature (15min, on 3rd and 5th class) and the last one at the
end of the course checking the knowledge gained during the course
(30min).
2) Attendance (one absence is allowed).
Brief presentations prepared by teacher, group discussions, analysis of
clinical material.
