SOCIETY OF PHYSICS STUDENTS (SPS) COLLOQUIUM

The Application of Physics in Engineering
Michael Georgalis, CSU Physics Alumnus (‘06) Venture Lightning
Abstract:

Physics is the application of Mathematics, and Engineering is the application of Physics. With mastery of the many skills one learns from an education in Physics, a career in Engineering is an obvious choice. While solving complex mathematical problems may at first seem irrelevant to a field which is so technologically integrated, it is the problem solving skills and intellectual innovation abilities that one truly takes away from a background in Physics. Engineers in the lighting industry use Physics every day, and a solid foundation in this pure science is extremely valuable in the world of High Intensity Discharge (HID) Lamp Engineering. This presentation will focus on the use of Physics in HID Engineering, and how an education in Physics can help one become a successful Engineer.
