The Common House Fly The house fly is a common flying insect which is found all around the world but is usually in warmer climates because it is ideal there for their growth. It is an insect with 2 weeks of breeding cycle and lays as many as about 500 eggs at a time. The longest life span of the common house fly is four weeks. Due to such breedin g behavior, its population increases many fold within a short space of time, if provided with appropriate conditions. Sitting on heaps of dung and spoiled food like eggs, fruits, flesh etc, house fl ies are one of the most widespread vectors for transferring germs to human being s and other mammals. These insects equally like to sit on fresh and rotting food, hence becoming a so urce of significant illnesses. A single leg of this insect carries millions of d angerous germs which are the agents of significant diseases to human beings, thr eatening their health. They transfer numerous parasitic, viral, and bacterial di seases. Whilst in large numbers, these small insects can be a serious problem for reside nts of that area. To be rid of house flies is more difficult and more challengin g because of the domestic nature of these pests. It does not matter that these are also flying pests just like mosquitoes, we can t use the same ways to kill them because flies are bigger in size and are found n ear food. It could be very hazardous to use pesticides on the flying pests to ki ll them. If we do so, it can poison our food and the area as well, resulting in serious h ealth hazards. They can be killed by striking them with a fly swatter but this p rocedure is also risky and awkward because it is impossible to kill a large quan tity of flies like that. It can also get very unpleasant to see them dead in front of you, especially whi lst you are eating. Instead of targeting the mature flying bugs, we should targe t the breeding places of these flies. In order to do that, it is vital to know where the house fly lays eggs. Usually it lays eggs around dead and decaying organic material. Its eggs are whitish in colour and the larvae or maggots are yellowish. Examine your environment to determine which places could become appropriate mati ng and breeding areas for house flies such as places where there is rubbish or f aeces. Cleanliness is the first step to take in action against these bugs. It is useful to use some pesticides to kill the larvae and pupae of these insec ts together with the adults. It will reduce the chances of growth in numbers of these flies. Rather than simply throwing your waste out, always process it befor e throwing it away. Always keep it covered and never let it become a place for such bugs to feed and grow on. You ought to always dispose off your waste with suitable care. The cha nces of suffering from health issues by such bugs can be hugely reduced if we ma ke a little effort to keep our environment clean and hygienic. There are also items that you can use to kill adult house flies like sticky tape hanging from the ceiling or shelves, although they may become unsightly and the electric fly traps that lure flies with a blue light and kills by electrocution
