It offers services on audit, tax consultation, business risks, and financial advice. A giant in the financial world. During the FY 2011 alone, garnered a record profit of revenues of USD28.8 billion. “Professional growth. Spot on.”
Current Employee in Los Angeles, CA – Reviewed Jun 15, 2008 Pros – Professional growth is the main reason to join a company like Deloitte. With the amount of trainings and varied on-the-job experience, it makes Deloitte truly a great place to grow. Promotions are pretty straight forward: If you work hard and get recognized for it, you'll get promoted (2 years until Senior, 4-5 years until Manager). There are very few jobs out there that give you this experience to see different companies and understand how they run their businesses. Especially for young professionals coming straight out of college, it's rare to find a position that will grant you this much responsibility at that age. Overall, this is a great place to start your career. Cons – Work-life balance can be a joke at times as Managers have been known to pressure people to work during their vacation time. Also, you will meet your fair amount of social inept people. The hours worked REALLY vary based on your clients. I know some people who work insane hours while others are coasting their way through. Working long hours does not necessarily mean you will be recognized for them all either.

In this age of accounting/consulting competition among the big firms, companies offering services to clients are in a constant battle to cut their budgets to sell their work. This ends up hurting people at the lower levels who have to complete the same amount of work originally planned but in less time just so we can make ourselves more financially competitive. I have heard stories of Managers / Sr. Managers asking their staff to "eat hours" (i.e. not report total hours work) just so they don't have to increase the costs of the engagement.

As I stated before, Deloitte is a great place to start your career. This is not to say it's the best place to stay though.

I've seen many Managers depressed from the time it has taken away from their family life. Keep in mind that when you start a job like this, you'll potentially have to travel a good amount. Advice to Senior Management – A few main points: -Never ask your staff to eat hours. If you sold a service for a set number of hours, you better be ready to live by it. Don't damage your reputation with your staff and the client because of it. -Learn to appreciate the people around you. Deloitte's system is set up in a way that promotes criticism and areas of improvement and fails to congratulate staff on a job well done. Even a simple "Thanks for your help on this" can go a long way. -Focus on hiring people with more soft skills. I have come across many people who are intellectually gifted, but lack strong social skills. In the industry of financial services where you're putting people in front of the client, make sure you'd feel comfortable with that person leading an interview.

(Cover-Letter for Martin Currie.) Parsa Ahmed Telephone: Email: For the attention of: The Personnel Manager, Martin Currie Dear Sir/Madam, I am most respectfully writing you to apply for an Investment Banking Internship in your most reputable organization. “Excellent firms don’t believe in excellence — only in constant improvement and constant change.” – Tom Peters. In applying for an excellent corporation such as Martin Currie, I cannot agree more. I have a tremendous interest in the investment banking industry on account of its impact on a macro-level – on the global and national finance levels; and on the lives of its millions of clients seeking to invest into enterprises to better their standard of living. I strongly believe that the industry and your reputable corporation offers consummate development opportunities, and the massive opportunity and honour to work for one of the financial world’s leading companies. A highly esteemed financial corporation, Martin Currie, sentimentally referred to as the Big Boutique, is considered as a leading specialist investment management

business, providing top notch services to a wide variety of clients from financial institutions, charities, foundations, endowments, pension funds, family offices, government agencies and investment funds. It currently boasts the management of £6.4 billion (US$9.9 billion, as of 30 September 2011) in active equity portfolios. It would be an honour to be part of such a prestigious and outstanding financial corporation. Rest assured, I am a dedicated individual trained and geared to face challenges. Born as the first child in my family, which belongs to an under-represented ethnic minority, I did my best to take and finish with colours, an undergraduate degree at a prestigious university. I am a highly-motivated individual, which can be attested to by my extensive professional experience and successful track record as a Mathematics and Economics student. I have acquired and developed essential types of skills throughout my career. As Director of my own business, I have demonstrated that I have the drive and motivation to deliver work in an exceptionally high standard. I acquired the ability to confidently make difficult decisions. In this role I trained, developed, and led a small team, effectively by being both a strong leader and a team player. I also proved my negotiation and influencing skills by winning several lucrative contracts with major accounts. I established realistic financial targets and forecasts, monitoring spending levels and reviewing opportunities to cut costs where applicable. I would gratefully welcome the honour and opportunity for a detailed review regarding my CV with you in order to demonstrate my affluence of skills to you. I can certainly be available in your most convenient time. Please do not hesitate to call me on Mobile so we can discuss my application in greater depth. Yours faithfully, Parsa Ahmed

Working Differently The unique knowledge and experience of each of our 184,000 member firm professionals are what fuel our business. Put simply, our people are our most valuable asset, so we actively invest the time and resources to advance a culture of continuous professional and personal development. This includes two-way discussions related to client service assignments, global deployment, learning and development, work/life balance, and opportunities to serve our communities. In response to a changing workforce, business and environmental needs, Deloitte has implemented a framework around which the business can define and manage different working arrangements to retain staff and enhance continuity and quality of service. 4. The Namibian office audits 5 of the Top 10 Namibian clients (based on revenue) The Deloitte organization is recognized as the world's preeminent professional services network. We earned this distinction not only because of our commitment to delivering world-class client service, but because of our commitment to attracting, developing, and retaining top talent to drive those efforts. Our member firm professionals serve premiere clients and have access to a worldwide network of innovative resources that help enable them to provide solutions to even the most complex business issues. The Namibian office provides staff with the opportunity of working with the top Namibian clients, thereby equipping them with a first-rate career experience. 5. Learning environment We reject a one-size-fits-all approach to learning, because we know it can only lead to one-size-fits-all professionals. Your function, role, level, and prior education and experience define a highly individualized set of learning and development needs. At Deloitte and its subsidiaries (―Deloitte‖), our learning programs are designed to identify your personal strengths and development areas, then offer opportunities to help you reach the next level across a broad range of technical, industry, professional, and leadership capabilities. Competency assessments, customized development paths, and specialized curricula provide the framework for meeting your personal performance and career goals. Your learning begins before you walk in the door. As a firm we are dedicated to the development of our Namibian staff. We do this through providing bursaries to Namibians, particularly those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, to study toward their qualifications as Namibian chartered accountants. Our past 8-year spending program in this respect has seen spending to the amount of N$ 5, 8 million. In addition, during the past financial year Deloittians globally has spent 192 000 hours or 24 000 days spent on learning. 6. Transformation Namibia is currently experiencing a severe shortage of qualified chartered accountants. We are pleased to note that we are well placed in this area. Our firm currently has 21 chartered accountants in its employ, of which 9 are qualified black chartered accountants. Deloitte has produced, on average, a third of Namibia’s chartered accountants over the last 5 years, and over 42% of all black chartered accountants in Namibia. Currently we have 79 employees and over 40 bursars, and over 96% of our staff members are Namibians. Of our staff complement, 62% are black and 56% are female. (July 2011)

In an organization as large and expansive as Deloitte, leadership commitment to diversity and inclusion is only the beginning. Making it happen takes effective action. One of the steps we’ve taken is to implement a number of career development programs that accomplish this mission by encouraging awareness, dialogue and results. Each program is built not simply to check the box, but to make things happen – by giving our people opportunities to take on new challenges and setting them up for long-term success. 7.
