Ecosystems found on the property include a fresh water slough, a maritime forest, and mangrove wetlands. Edison & Ford Winter Estates/Thomas Edison Laboratory & Museum Situated on the Caloosahatchee River in Fort Myers, Seminole Lodge was the retreat and work place for Thomas Edison until his death in 1931. The neighboring property, The Mangoes, was the getaway for Henry Ford. Edison and Ford spent many winters working, talking, and relaxing on these southwest Florida estates. Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve Nature lovers will be drawn to Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. This 2,500-acre, nine-milelong wetland in Fort Myers is home to many different species of animals and plants, including 10 that are endangered. Enjoy a guided walk of this special ecosystem or take part in one of the many hands-on educational programs. Manatee Park Between the months of November and March, you'll have an excellent opportunity to view manatees in this non-captive refuge. Manatee Park has a large butterfly garden, picnic areas, and a fishing pier on the Orange River where canoeing and kayaking is also popular. An amphitheater hosts a variety of entertaining programs. McGregor Boulevard Beautiful palm trees line both sides of McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers, which is famous for its expansive estate homes. One of the most famous is the Thomas Edison Estate. During Christmas, one of the main attractions of this historic area is the Holiday House where extensive lights and decorations abound. Port Sanibel Marina Rent a canoe or kayak at Port Sanibel Marina and glide peacefully through a mangrove forest. If you're lucky, you'll spot a river otter, manatee or dolphin along the way. There's also a mile-long nature boardwalk with interpretive signs that makes its way through the forest. Bring your binoculars as all types of birds reside there. Fort Myers Historical Museum Discover the history of Fort Myers and Southwest Florida at this comprehensive museum that makes its home in the former Atlantic Coastline Railroad Depot. Information-rich exhibits focus on the Paleo Indians, the Seminoles, and Spanish explorers. Highlights include a replica of a pioneer house and a private Pullman rail car from1929. Lakes Regional Park More than half of 279-acre Lakes Regional Park is dedicated to a freshwater lake. While there's no swimming allowed, visitors are encouraged to fish. They'll find bass, bream, and everything

in between. The lake is also home to the American Alligator. A wide range of birds can be spotted as well, such as egrets, herons, and cormorants. Everglades National Park Everglades National Park is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. Covering 1.5 million acres, this International Biosphere Reserve boasts endangered species, including seahorses, starfish, and tropical fish. With 156 miles of canoe and walking trails, exploring the Everglades is an amazing adventure. Miami Cruise Port The Port of Miami is home to many top-of-the-line cruise lines, including Carnival, Celebrity, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and Oceania. Travelers are able to choose from all types of cruises, from 3 to 11 days, which set sail for the Bahamas, Mexico, the Caribbean, South American, and Key West.
