DATA MODELING FOR DATABASE DEVELOPERS, DBAS—AND NOW DATA ARCHITECTS
Toad® Data Modeler is an easy-to-use and low-cost—yet powerful—data modeling and design tool that is built for the individual developer, DBA and data architects. Toad Data Modeler simplifies the process of: • • • • Building complex entity relationship models both logical and physical Synchronizing models Generating complex SQL/DDL create and alter scripts Reverse-engineering legacy databases

Toad Data Modeler was built for database users that: • • • • • Need an easy-to-learn product that doesn’t require training Need an affordable product or want to extend their existing modeling capabilities Want to manage and document changes to an existing data model over time Want to synchronize the data model with the database on an ongoing basis Want to migrate data structures from one database version or platform to another

Many organizations do not perform data modeling every day, since enterprise, modeling solutions are too expensive and complex. Toad Data Modeler solves this dilemma.

WHAT’S NEW IN TOAD DATA MODELER 3
Toad Data Modeler 3 represents a significant increase in modeling capabilities, compared to prior versions. The dynamic database, design tool brings many new and useful efficiency features that are accompanied by a completely new and intuitive user interface.

Alter Script Generation
This was probably the single most requested feature enhancement. It allows you to generate SQL scripts with “ALTER” commands to synchronize the data model and database.

Model Compare and Sync
New to Toad Data Modeler 3 are intuitive and robust model compare and merge wizards (see screenshots below). Modelers can now easily compare and synch up separate models, with complete visual representations of the key differences.

Logical Modeling
Toad Data Modeler 3 adds full support for logical data modeling. This is a major addition that facilitates both true business and technical modeling needs. Now, you can model your true business requirements and then transform that data model into a perfectly matching technical implementation, without losing any of the business context in the process.

On-Screen Editing
A very exciting new feature in Toad Data Modeler 3 is on-screen object editing. Below, you can see that the “Customer ID” column can be easily selected from within the physical model and simply changed on the screen. This is a real time saver. Plus, you can copy, cut and paste items such as attributes and columns across objects as well as models. You can use the standard Microsoft Windows drag-and-drop shortcuts like you do in Windows Explorer. This is a huge productivity enhancing feature, particularly for large models where objects may need to share common items.

Changeable Notation
With Toad Data Modeler 3, you can switch display styles between the very common Information Engineering (IE) and IDEF1X, a popular U.S. government standard. This is possible through the new and flexible architecture within the product. You can also add other notations as time goes on—even the Oracle CASE tool’s “Barker” notation. Below is an example of IDEF1X display mode. You simply need to open the main menu’s “Notation” item and select what you prefer.

Editable Screens
Have you ever had the desire to modify the design of the application screen from which you work? Do you wish you could add your own dialog box or data entry field? With Toad Data Modeler 3 you can—and it’s really easy. Save a favorite screen design by simply right-clicking on the screen and choosing “edit”.

Take a look at the default entity screen below. Let’s say you don’t like the empty space in the layout and you want to add some of your own information for data entry. Voilá, the results are shown below. And it only takes about five minutes to make Toad Data Modeler 3 look and feel how you want it to.
